Just gauging on the interest of Long Range Fuel Tanks for the Ford Rangers.  It likely may be the Newest Rangers first but we are negotiating with an Australian company to make both a high-capacity 31-34gal tank and since the Bronco II tanks are popular, maybe just a spare AUX tank that feeds the main tank as well.

I'm only bringing it up because it'll get seen by more than just whom we speak to or share with but I will clue you in.  To do this right is NOT an ebay type mod.  It's bad enough to think what R&D will cost us let alone the rising costs of materials and inflation, it is already a Buy once, cry once kind of mod however, it is a mod that does pay itself off with many conveniences, at the end of the day. If you had to sell it you could likely get a fair chunk of money back because not everyones going to see this opportunity.

Benefits:

  • The obvious, increased range to get you anywhere and back.  Max fuel fill when you can, half a tank for normal duties, you decide.
  • Preparation before inclimate weather strikes
  • Reduction of fuel costs, buy when its lesser expensive and get more for your $$$
  • Convenience of avoiding sketchy late night stops or protests riddled situations
  • Reduce theft, limit your visible cues of fuel storage but not having external Jerry cans unless you needed them
  • Keep weight of fuel down lowering the center of gravity of your rig
  • Remove the anxiety of a plastic fuel tank and move to a more protected steel option (will be working on a fuel-tank skid plate option too 90+)

Features:

  • Total complete kit from tech-support to installation components
  • Built for North American vehicles and emission standards
  • Replacement tank, or AUX tank options
  • Steel tanks, NOT plastic
  • Made in Australia by 3 Generations owned family & certified craftsman

Pricing?

Probably the first question for many, not so much for others.  It would be hard to overall guess at the exact price at this point.  That info will trickle in as we see where this may go direction wise.  A group buy price will exist for interested parties.

Current pricing for Tacoma 2016-2021 is approximately $2245 shipped

That being said, since fewer companies are around or making products for the 3rd-5th Gen Rangers, the market will likely at least pull us into the new truck market first if nothing else to help fund the older generation as well, we did not want to leave the earlier years behind.

There will be obvious R&D costs, there are materials and the shortages coupled with high demand, there's market value, sales volume, and there's always uncalculated costs, risks and or certifications.  Further gauging by interest and then commitments will help generate actual numbers and first group buy opportunity.

Thoughts and comments appreciated

I have been researching an auxiliary fuel tank for a gas powered F-350 for increased range. I had a Aux tank in a 70's model pickup that was in the bed and I had a valve that switched from the main tank over to the Aux with no issues. With the fuel pumps and return lines there is more to it today. All the systems I have seen for an Aux tank is for diesel only. There are some states that have laws against gasoline aux tanks and I haven't been able to find a transfer kit or tank switch kit for gasoline. There are plenty for diesel as it is not affected by the state laws.

The way to get around the Aux tank laws is with a transfer tank but you have to have a pump and nozzle to fill the main tank. Another option is to remove the factory tank and replace it with a larger tank.  Both of these workarounds are not appealing because of the transfer process or the cost of a replacement tank.

Good luck with the endeavor. Is there a chance that a 50 state DOT approved gasoline transfer kit or tank switch kit could also be offered?

There will be two options I see viable for 90-11 Ford Rangers.  I realize my initial post stated it but it should be clarified better.  There will be a direct replacement fuel tank, Gasoline, taking you from either a 17 or 21 gallon tank to a 32-34gal tank is the known goal.

A second option would be an AUX tank that works by removing the spare tire carrier and providing extra fuel tank.

For the 2019+, it will likely be only a larger capacity main tank in the same 30-34gal range would be the goal.

Which "State Law" are you referring to?

And are you specifically looking for an AUX tank for added fuel or a replacement tank?  For replacement tanks there are options especially for more fuel whether gas or Diesel, AUX tanks depends on the application but there are options.

If you want, let me know your F-350 information and what you're looking to do and I may have some options for you to consider in replacement tanks or AUX Tanks

The California law is the most restrictive but Massachusetts requires certifications and annual inspections.  Just to clarify this is a commercial vehicle that will have a DOT number on the side.
