I now own a 2001 explorer that was born with every accessory known to ford at the time.

I don't have a manual for the 01, I have a 97 manual. I'm sure Jamie has one :)

There is an accessory, on the drivers side visor that literally records your voice so you can leave short messages to yourself.

The previous owner is a friend of mine though he won't admit it in public. He has some "memories" on there, grandkids saying things, funny situation...

Where does this thing store its recordings? Did they make a way to save off the audio? Do I have to take a microphone out there and hold it against the recorder?

I haven't used it yet, I want to get his stuff off there before I wreck it.

For kicks and giggles I found a PDF version of the 2001 explorer manual, and did a search for "memo", "voice", and "note" and couldn't find anything in regards to it. I'm sure it was covered in a supplemental no longer easily available. but i seriously doubt that they included any way to pull those out of there. USB drives, and compact flash cards were brand new on the market, SD cards didn't exist. I'm sure there is a few KB of internal flash storage it is being stored on somewhere, and the fact that it works nearly 22 years later is a miracle.

Since I posted this I did hit play and it does indeed still work. I'll probably just tape a microphone to it and put it on a USB as a Christmas gift.

Thanks for looking, I don't know which explorer forum Jamie is doing most of his posting on.. I belong to al of them LOL I just don't know which one to post on. Some old expo freak is bound to have seen this thing before. It caught me by surprise I have never seen one.

If my interior was that color I would swap it out and use it!

Of course I don't remember the password. It probably required me to create a 3 mile long one with wingdings.

Thanks-
