What kind of severe duty paint should I use for my caliper brackets, dust shields, that thing that would contain the spindle if it were a 2wd (what's it called on a 4wd?)? I'm thinking black but want it to stay on there. I'll blast it first anything should stick but whats going to stay on there?

Bbq grill paint or duplicolor caliper paint should work fine. I believe the part you are referring to is the steering knuckle

Figure out what coating is OEM and/or used by the rebuilders on the caliper bracket and use it.

Caliper paint for the calipers

Powder coating is for interior /under hood dress up parts IMO :) It does not last anywhere else
Anything that is cast or welded steel the PC will come off shortly

Funny you said tractor enamel, I bought caliper paint but after I blasted the parts (well Mitch did that) I found several cans of "tractor enamel" we use for painting injection pumps... so I used it.

For all of my under carriage parts, I bead blast them, free of Paint and rust.
Apply a coating of DuPont Etching Primer, cover all but not too heavy.  I believe a good primer is the best first step when painting.
Let dry, no matter what the can says, I have found the paint lasts longer if the primer is dried; maybe it has time to adhere to the metal.
Spray with the DuPont HD Black Paint; the can might have said Diesel Paint !

Touch up is easier than Powder Coating, the paint have never peeled because of rusting underneath, I think that is the primer, and Dupont has always had the best matching color system for OEM Parts.

OK black isn't much of an OEM Color, but DuPont in general has a great line of paint !

Body parts are either blasted or sanded well, removing all signs of rust, Etching Primer is applied and then a top coat of paint from the same manufacture.
I like to keep the paints and primers similar, keeping the same manufacture seems to help in the long run keeping the paint adhered to the metal/plastic parts.

Working on more Mods, just need more time, longer days would work !

Ill checkout the Dupont
I use Kryon alot and tractor enamel from BigR
I am a big fan of Magnet paints and their products like Chassis saver and monstaliner
I agree 110% that the primer is the key and let the primer CURE also let the paint CURE and I mean not just dry to the touch , bake that crap in the sun then let it dry for a day after that..... of course alot depends on what we are painting.
Most of my trucks can be touched up with a can of flat black enamel on all the hard parts that need touch up
I do not have paint jobs anymore, I got tired of waxing and polishing so all my trucks are coated with liner, it has worked out very well for us!
