I have never had to work on one, if a Ranger has a 28 spline 8.8 in the rear is the front also 8.8? If so do the regular guts out of a 8.8 fit in? I do have a reason for asking.

I guess I could google but I trust some of you here better than google because I know you have real world experience.

Regardless of year, motor or options? You know my range 98,99,2000 do you know the years off top of your head?

Guess I should have googled first I'm looking like a n00b

Without looking 98-2011 all have a dana 35 no matter year or power train options. Twin I beam trucks have a dana 28 if I'm not mistaken. Regardless of it not being an 8.8 the front wouldn't work for the rest as the gears are cut differently for a different rotation

But if the ring would fit a 28 spline LS center section I would have one to put in there. I did know it rotates reverse.

Since it won't, I'm not going to worry about it. I have something shaking up there anyway, I need to look at it.

The 98-11 Ranger uses the torsion sprung IFS suspension same as Explorer 95-01. The center carrier (diff) is a reverse rotation dana 35, the carrier is pretty unique to this Ford application. The dana 35 has something like a 7.25" ring gear which is pretty stout for a front axle (considering many jeeps had a dana 35 REAR axle even behind the 318 v8! hahahaha oh I love to poke fun at Chrysler rear axles.....)

The earlier Ranger 83-97 had the TTB suspension, used a different center section, either a dana 28 or dana 35 depending on the engine (d28 was all 83-88 2.3 and 2.8 /2.9) then with the 4.0 in 1989 they started using a dana 35 ttb up front in v6 trucks. There is a "hybrid" dana 28 carrier inside a dana 35 housing that is found on some 4 banger rangers 93-97 I believe)...but we don't need to get into the details on those......

No 8.8 parts are innerchangable with the front diff, none, nada, zippo

hope that helps!!

^This... all of this   haha

1998 - 2011 4wd rangers had the Dana 35 SLA center section. It's essentially a standard rotation Dana/AMC model 35, but the carrier is fairly unique (along with the intermediate shaft/axle bearings/housing). The ring and pinion gears (along with the carrier and pinion bearings) are interchangeable with any standard rotation Dana/AMC 35.

I see............. all this time I thought the front dana 35 in the SLA trucks used the reverse rotation same as the ttb trucks...I see I was wrong!
Thank you!
Now I know, I had to look it up!
