1998 Ranger, 4.0 ohv, auto, 4wd.
1999 Expo sport, 4.0 ohv, auto, 4wd

I'm pulling the motor on the ranger. Supposed to put the Expo motor in the ranger, expo was a "donor" but is in decent shape except has reverse only. And a darn good reverse at that!

Would the tranny from the ranger fit in the expo 100%? Electronically identical are they or were there subtle nuances that made them different?

I am stepping up my "project schedule" because I'm taking another job closer to home and won't have the luxury of storing multiple crap vehicles, one or the other has to go. My V8 project is being parked in front of my garage where I can visit it daily for wrench turning..

I would think it would be a direct replacement.

I am sure more knowledgeable board members will confirm or deny this.

Not planning on it, it would leave me with a white carcass. We both need parts off that expo.

Meant "decided against it due to the fact we both need parts off the thing"

I do needs parts since the wife said I'm not allowed to use the expo for a donor. She fell in love with that thing
