Got a 1990 ranger with 302 swap, any suggestions for weight difference on front suspension....such as recommended coil springs & shocks?

Early 302's weighed about 460 pounds. The latter 302's were lighter.

What engine is coming out?

2wd or 4wd?
Was it 4 banger or v6 before conversion?
What transmission is in there?
What year 302?

Basically a leveling coil is usually the ticket, skyjacker makes a 1.5" lift coil for the ttb trucks that works perfectly and keeps a nice factory ride

FYI the V8 is only a couple hundred pounds heavier then the 4.0l 6 in most cases

Just another DIY option..

https://www.therangerstation.com/how-to/suspension-and-body-lifts/f-150-coils-for-your-v8-ranger/

NOTE: The F-150 coils were only 2-inches taller than the Ranger springs, but provided 3-3/4 inches of lift. That's because they have a higher spring weight than the Ranger coils, and aren't going to sag as much under the weight of a Ranger. You're not going to be able to get the Ranger aligned using F-150 coils. You'll be able to adjust it some, but not all the way to where it needs to be. If you've done a V8 swap, than there is a better chance of getting it to align with the added weight on the front. This is a situation where a set of worn out coils from a fullsize Ford could actually work better. Don't forget that the Ford Econoline vans used coils in the front as well.

Otherwise, I'd contact a Spring manufacture like Eibach and have them make you a set of custom coils. Its not as expensive as you would think.

Make sure you get advice from a Suspension Pro, before making changes, especially to just one end of the truck. Both back and front work together to get you your lift and THE RIDE !

My Std Cab 2003 EDGE, had a MAJOR problem with Wheel Hop/Bump Steering and poor braking in the rear. Short end... got rear shocks replaced and fronts rebuilt by someone that knows shocks and this truck is back on track... no more bump steer and the braking is more consistent.

Before changing anything in the suspension system consult a suspension pro !

You guys are vastly over-thinking this. My 2wd standard cab 87 efi 302 swap truck is riding at the factory ride height using variable rate Moog replacement springs from RockAuto bought for an extended cab V6 4x4 model. The first set of springs I bought were for a standard cab 4x4, normal duty springs, and they only lowered the truck less than 1/4" with the V8 and T5Z. I've had them for sale for a while now.

A (newer) fully dressed 302 is around 465lbs +/-
An OHV 4.0 V6 that was scrapped by a Ranger forum member weighed 460lbs fully dressed with some fluids still in it. About 420lbs with no accessories or exhaust manifolds.
5.0 efi from crown vic complete not including ac compressor = 455lbs

Mustang 5.0. by Kirschenbaum states that the 1982 5.0 was the lightest at 440lbs

Of course, 25+ year old truck coil springs will make these numbers seem extremely off when you drop the V8 in the engine bay.. New coil springs correct the issue nicely.

If I had it to do all over again I'd go with a set of Ranger Rick's coilover mounts and a nice set of aftermarket coilovers. I still might do that when I decide to finally install my 97 beam/brake swap. The parts are ready to go.

could not agree more
there are stock coils. 1.5" lift coils, 2" coils and so on already available and the V8 is not much heavier then the V6. With my V8 swap and worn out Skyjacker coils all I did was add a 1" spacer under the coil (F150 spring seat)
