Ever since my family got the silver 02 Ranger it has had a hard starting issue, has gotten all new spark plugs, air filter, throttle body and IAC cleaning, newer fuel filter within the last couple years, and still has the hard start. Cycle the key on/off a few times and it fires up right away. So I'm thinking the fuel pump is getting weak? I looked up motorcraft and Bosch ones and they are proud of them, can't really afford those so does anyone have another brand fuel pump they recommend?

You should do a fuel rqail pressure test 02 ranger should be 64-68 psi

bosch blue top (Motorcraft will probably come with a bosch pump)
Or Walbro
NO OTHER PUMP ON THE MARKET is worth installing IMHO

With the amount of work involved in raising your bed (or dropping the tank) do not skimp!!
You need to replace pump, strainer AND fuel filter....recent or not

Make sure you check and see if your fuel filter has 2 or 3 fittings

I would run Bosch blue pump, bosch strainer and wix fuel filter....well under $100 from Rockauto.com

Careful ordering anything from Ebay or amazon, many times you can get counterfeit bosch pumps there...........

I put a Bosch pump in my wife's 99 Explorer Sport a couple years ago when the old one died, & if mine does need one after I replace the fuel filter in my 00 Ranger it will get a Bosch pump also. As Jamie said do not skimp on this.

You guys got me sold on the Bosch fuel pump, couple more questions, where is the fuel pressure test port on the 4.0 if it has one, and what tool do I need to get the filter off?

But isn't the fuel pressure still monitored and you can read it with a scan tool? I didn't know about the schrader valve disappearing man that makes it harder. I better start building a 2000 so by the time all mine wear out I'll have a fresh one.

Bought those 3 items today and used the discount code for that, going to see if my scan tool has a fuel pressure tester programmed in it, I can concur with the no test port as I looked all over the top of the engine for one and couldn't find it. Thanks for the code 410
