So I'm out of town for work. My mom calls, (yea get the laughs out now) and says the truck is did some weird  . She goes to park in front of my house, very slight hill, puts the truck in part. Before she can even get out the truck, out of no where it decided to start rolling! She puts the parking brake on which it does work and then try's to start the truck back up to move it back. Dash lights come on but no start. I'm dumbfounded, the truck has always be reliable never had issues. Does have 150k + on the odometer. Any clues to as what may be work would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Your shift cable either broke or ceased up, the lever on the trans came loose or broke, or the 2 torx bolts that hold the column shifter to the mech that controls the cable under the dash came loose or something in the tube that goes between the column and cable actuator broke.

Any way it happened, it didn't go in to park that's why it rolled and it isn't in park that's why it wont start.

I'm going with Jim on this one. My explorer did the same thing. Changed the linkage on the column and it solved the problem. Sometimes mine wouldnt go into park all the way. I had to shove the shifter hard into park and put it neutral to start it

Expos and mountys are much more famous for this than rangers. I wonder why, it is like the exact same setup. Would be an interesting study.

Issue on almost every Ford with column shift. I have seen this on even the Freestar.
