Took redrum for a long drive today, went to work and back. Had to stop after I was almost home at a wendys. While I was waiting in line steam started coming up out of the hood. As if the truck doesn't already scream "look at me". It didn't get hot so I continued through and got the chicken nuggets and fries for my son that won't eat much else and went home.

It looks like it was coming from the front where the top hose and heater hose go in to that whatever it is they all tie in to. Looks to be plastic. Is this something that happens a lot? I couldn't identify the exact location so I'll bring a pressure tester home from work and trick it in to spewing. It is a new problem, no evidence of it from before.

Didn't get hot but did loose some coolant.

Just went out and looked, either the thermostat housing is cracked or someone left it loose when they replaced a thermostat I can move it around like it is not connected.

I was in there too and could have had it out in a couple minutes LOL my luck.

Hi me, how am I? Fine and how about me? Doing well LOL

Anyhow I took it off and the problem was there was no bolt on the left. So it eventually wiggled loose and popped. I bet the guy before me replaced the thermostat and didn't tighten the bolt. No telling how long it had been out the hole was filled with crud and rusted. I'll run a tap in it after blowing it out.

I'll put a couple socket heads and hardened washers in there but that is more than an o-ring it is some sort of a weird rectangular thing molded into a circle.

The way I took this off is so much easier than any tutorial I saw might have to write one.It was literally 10 minutes.

That gasket fits on the edge of the thermostat. You can tell by the grove in the gasket.

The gasket was just plain weird I have never seen anything like it.
I cleaned things up, put a new gasket on, ran a tap in the holes (M6 X 1.0), cleaned up the surface with a scraper and some emery, put it back on with 2 socket head screws and hardened washers.

Drove it around for a while, everything seemed OK so I'm taking it to work tomorrow.

It didn't leak a drop, but the temp didn't go past 1/4. I guess I should have replaced the thermostat while I was in there?

That would be my assumption. That or I screwed up a sensor cleaning the housing with solvent.

There are 2 sensors, one for the computer and one for the gauge which doesn't make sense but whatever. Maybe it was cheaper.

I guess I should forscan it to see what the temp really is that's a great idea. The switch to the blend doors is busted too so I can't tell if there is heat or not. The PO indicated it cooled better than it heated so I have some work ahead of me. I just want it to be drivable for the next owner.

The tensioner started squeaking after it got douched with hot coolant too. Not a belt squeak a bearing squeak.

This thing isn't a money pit so far but it is a work pit.
