I am thinking about getting my Radio Bezel, Door Control Panels and Console Cup Holder dipped !
Here are my choices:  The Radio Bezel will have a semi gloss finish spray, the Cup Holder will have more gloss finish spray.
Radio Bezel and Door Control Panels - Brushed Steel

TheCup Holder - US Flags

Any thoughts on Patterns and prices ?

The brushed look will look really nice. We've subbed out some work for similar from a shop in Minnesota for a young lady that just had to have a Tiffany Blue interior motif in her 2G Xterra.

Work came out nice, I was more impressed that the girl took all the parts off herself.. INCLUDING the airbag clock-spring to remove the cruise control palettes on the steering wheel.

She was ecstatic over it ! lol

What prices?

The brushed look is interesting, it's very hard to visualise on a flat picture Vs a physical object though. I imagine it would subdue the look once applied, which would be a good thing.

True but it is the only way to get it done is do it !

I'm thinking a light colored base coat might help to keep it brighter !

FINALLY... I dropped off six interior pieces to get Hydro-Graphic(ed) today !

Talked with the owner, decent guys, so far, watched the process, got a new view to what takes place.
Talked about the graphics, the methods and how the graphics flow, and the base coats that affect the overall look.

Flag designed won't be the same but close, something about the way the graphic stretches to fit the curves.

Two to three weeks turn-around so we will tell when they get done !

I will post pictures when the parts are finished.

After talking to the Owner, Jim, I can answer your question, "Yes" !

I am going to use a darker base coat, it will keep things on the darker side side, maybe a little darker than the picture, but then again picture colors are deceiving.

I asked for the lighter base coat under the Flags, hoping to brighten them up some.

Cost... to me the guy is little high but I am not overly familiar about Hydro-graphic pricing so how do I know, but for six pieces the price was going to be just over $400.00 but after talking to him for a while the price came down to just over $300.   I would like to have closer to $200 but it is what it is and I wanted it, so I am paying the price, I am only hoping for it to turn out as well as I am told it will.

He uses a pricing method of $0.50/sq inch.   but that to gauge an approximate price, his actual pricing is lower.   Maybe a gimmick to give the customer a good feeling about the price being lower... not sure but after seeing some of his work, talking to the guy, and wanting it so bad... I went with it.

Again we will see when I have the parts in my hand.
Also, I need to price in two trips to the shop, drop off and pickup...  an hour drive each way, almost a tank of gas...  another $40 !

I already want the parts so I don't lose the mojo but it will take two weeks on the short side.

There is a long process to the graphic application.
1) Take apart any thing the needs to come off, i.e. Cup Holder, Coin Holders need to have those disks removed.  He says they do it and they replace it... that works.
2) Smooth out any imperfections, he went over all the parts with me and we talked about what needed to be done.  In my case not much but there is a little imperfections he will address.
3) Clean the parts.
4) Apply Base Costs of your choice.
5) Apply the Graphics.
6) Apply a top coat of clear sealer/protector, you choose, Gloss. Semi Gloss, Flat.
7) Review the parts for quality work.

As you can see it take more work than just dip and stick the graphics.
He has to make sure the surface is fit for the process and the smoothness needed for the graphics to look and feel right !
Once he went over the process and what it takes I started to feel a little better about the pricing.

What I expect to get back is a smooth perfectly applied and protected piece to make my Interior come alive in both color and looks.

Hope this helps in letting you know the price and what the process actually take to get to the perfect graphic... applied perfectly.

Added Note:  K2Concepts, does all of the Shelby of SoCal Hydro-graphics, mainly the Carbon Fiber Patterns.

Here is K2Concepts Card, if anyone is interested.
The address on the Card is his Mailing Addie, his Shop is located at:
W. Fourth St, Beaumont, CA  92223.

Remember...  I will have the parts back in two to three weeks, so I can't go any further, but he comes higher recommended by a guy that is local to me.

Will see, soon enough !

First Picture of the Radio bezel, Door Switch Panels, and the Cup Holder.

Radio Bezel - Brushed Metal with Dark Gray base cost.
Just to point out "No Switches, No Power Ports !

Pass. Door Switch Panel - Brushed Metal.  the Handles are coated the same pattern.

Cup Holder - The Flags are the same as my original pattern, the Graphics guy didn't think the original pattern I chose would flow in the hole as well as this pattern so it went this way !

These will not be installed until the "power windows and mirrors project" is completed, or at the same time so don't expect too many picture a head of that !

Nice! I especially like the cup holder.  Hydrographics is certainly an interesting process...the results are undeniable.

It is not that difficult to apply the hydrogaphics. The biggest requirement id a large enough tank.

Big Tank is good but I think it is more of technique in application than just having the right stuff to do it !

With the proper prep the hydro-graphics is not that difficult, the good thing is if you screw it up it is easily fixed before it cures. I have done some sudo - carbon fiber hydro-graphics on some Harley parts - a while back.

OK then you have the nack !
But do you have the Tank !
LoL !

I for one will never have the ability to do the Hydro-graphics because I will only be doing this enough to fit the Ranger with the pieces that are already done.
you must have to try and fail enable to learn how to do it right !

This shop I went to is a little smaller than I thought it was going to be.   The guy just moved in and as it turns out, it is a family business, Him, Wife and two sons, and things were still getting straightened out but usable !

I like the Family Business things, my father and his brother had a string of grocery store, with fresh cuts of meat as the high point, and when they were getting older I wanted to buy out at least one of the stores and I wasn't allowed to... never really got a good answer but they were Italians and there was no arguing.
So when I see the Family Business I think back and well you know how it goes !

Anyway, I digress, the setup of the shop seemed simple enough, he showed me the process but not in detail, turned on a few switches and showed me a few things more, but I got the idea that if you had the ability, you could make a living out of it !
