Oh, is the coating see through in some way?
After talking to the Owner, Jim, I can answer your question, "Yes" !
I am going to use a darker base coat, it will keep things on the darker side side, maybe a little darker than the picture, but then again picture colors are deceiving.
I asked for the lighter base coat under the Flags, hoping to brighten them up some.
Cost... to me the guy is little high but I am not overly familiar about Hydro-graphic pricing so how do I know, but for six pieces the price was going to be just over $400.00 but after talking to him for a while the price came down to just over $300. I would like to have closer to $200 but it is what it is and I wanted it, so I am paying the price, I am only hoping for it to turn out as well as I am told it will.
He uses a pricing method of $0.50/sq inch. but that to gauge an approximate price, his actual pricing is lower. Maybe a gimmick to give the customer a good feeling about the price being lower... not sure but after seeing some of his work, talking to the guy, and wanting it so bad... I went with it.
Again we will see when I have the parts in my hand.
Also, I need to price in two trips to the shop, drop off and pickup... an hour drive each way, almost a tank of gas... another $40 !
I already want the parts so I don't lose the mojo but it will take two weeks on the short side.
There is a long process to the graphic application.
1) Take apart any thing the needs to come off, i.e. Cup Holder, Coin Holders need to have those disks removed. He says they do it and they replace it... that works.
2) Smooth out any imperfections, he went over all the parts with me and we talked about what needed to be done. In my case not much but there is a little imperfections he will address.
3) Clean the parts.
4) Apply Base Costs of your choice.
5) Apply the Graphics.
6) Apply a top coat of clear sealer/protector, you choose, Gloss. Semi Gloss, Flat.
7) Review the parts for quality work.
As you can see it take more work than just dip and stick the graphics.
He has to make sure the surface is fit for the process and the smoothness needed for the graphics to look and feel right !
Once he went over the process and what it takes I started to feel a little better about the pricing.
What I expect to get back is a smooth perfectly applied and protected piece to make my Interior come alive in both color and looks.
Hope this helps in letting you know the price and what the process actually take to get to the perfect graphic... applied perfectly.
