Unfortunately my son doesn't feel right driving my extended cab Ranger and will not be assuming it as his own.

SO he says he does want a truck, don't mind driving a Ranger, but likes my short cab better because it steers better. He cannot have the Jalapeno I have chosen it as my own!

He likes blue better, dark blue in particular.

SOOO all that being said, I am looking for a Ranger in good shape that fits these "IF THEN" statements, I'm willing to drive or pay for driving. Part of these he chose, some of them I am specifying. Post the result of your search here please and I will respond daily with a yes or a no. Finder might just get a visit from me or be paid to drive it to me if you have the time.

My time line is from the middle of August hopefully before next year.

In good shape with no frame damage or excessive body rust, would like to keep it under 4K if possible.

Criteria:
----------------------------------
1998-2011
Darker Blues
Short cab Short bed
4WD
Anything but tan interior

IF 98 thru 2000 would prefer 4.0 but would take 3.0

IF 2001 up will not take 4.0, want 3.0
-----------------------------------------------------------

No preference on wheels, tires, accessories as all of this can be changed.
No preference on mileage as I have seen 300,000 mile vehicles in great shape and have a 120,000 ish one in my back yard worth about 300 bucks.

Needs to be in the CONUS

Needs to be after August 20th 2020 and preferably before end of year.

Unless it is a FANTASTIC deal, needs to be able to be driven from location to Ohio. I will consider Gems with blown motors but it would have to be exceptional.

If you know your crap about Rangers would appreciate you look it over from an enthusiasts perspective on the key issues.. no frame rot no buckets of bondo.

Thanks!

I'll keep an eye out for some around here if you want. There won't be much if any rust, but I know it's quite a long drive.

While searching for low mile rangers across the country, ohio had the highest concentration. The price of rangers are trending upwards. Washington state is one of the most expensive states for rangers. I could buy a 2010-2011 ranger with 60k miles or less starting at 12,999-16,500 in ohio, but in Washington $16.5 gets you a 2010-2011 with 80-100k miles.

I know that's not your criteria. Just sharing

That's exactly what's happening. Dealers are so hungry for rangers out here they are bringing them from nearby states and even canada.

My nephew decided he wanted a ranger. Hes 18. I wanted him to learn how to manage debt and build credit so we got preapproved at the credit union. We searched for a couple months to find a 2010 or newer under 100k miles. Our goal was to find one for 10k. We found this one for 13,999. It was from Canada. We jumped on it because it was 3k less than any others we had seen. We settled at 11k. The dealer had recleared the paint everywhere but the roof. Lol. Added Fuel wheels and knobby toyos. Came with a 3inch body lift and 2 inch wheel spacers which we removed when we balanced the tires.

If you think I exaggerate go to cargurus or edmunds.com and search rangers in the 98020 area. You just might want to load up your rangers...

Frontier Motors in middletown ohio had the best selection and prices. We were tempted to do the trip and cannonball it back if it weren't for the pandemic and possibly getting stuck in another state for 2 weeks

I too have been watching the Ranger market :) Big shock I know!
That truck Eddie and his nephew got was a great deal this side of the Rockies, prices are indeed going up.
Heck even bronco II's are up to $3500-4500 for a running truck. A few years ago these things were more like $350-400 LOL

I will keep my eyes peeled!

Just for S&Gs, I ran my truck on KBB.com.  It's worth $5500 private party sale and $3200 trade in.  For that amount of money I would just drive it into a strip pit and call it a day.

Rangers bring premium down here in Atlanta providing they are not smoking or have rust issues. Sport-trac's are through the roof especially if they are V-8's. What is interesting the Chevy S10's can be had fairly cheaply. My niece's boyfriend had his  Subaru stolen and totaled where his insurance almost paid enough to almost pay it off at the first of the year. He picked up a late 90's reg cab S10 w/ 4.3L Auto with under 100k for $1100 and it had fairly new tires. He is driving it as a beater but wants to keep it on the road as long as possible.
