I recently got HPtuners pro at work. My boss bought it so i could tune his turbo truck after paying 3 tuners to mess it up. Im currently building my 4.0 for my 96 ranger and was wondering if anyone on here has experience with HP tuners on the early OBD2 ecu? I wondering if it would be worth it to smoke 2 credits for $57 each to try to tune it or should we stick with sct like everyone else? Side note... We tuned his truck today with no problem. Its not spot on but its pure nastyness.

Following this one.

One of the guys here (at work) put a turbo on his 3.8 mustang V6 and used SCT.

We deal superchips at work but mostly for diesel applications.

I imagine though any tuner is awesome, IMO it is more the tune than the tuner that makes the difference.

Right! Its crazy how many fly by night shops open up and "tune" cars for $50 an hour. I watched my boss shell out $300. 3x to get his truck to run and no one could do it. We bought the software to diy for $650 and about 3 hours of playing with it and its good enough. My best opinion is pay a reputable shop and not joe-tuner with his ears tucked into his backward hat or just learn it yourslf

Advocate of street tuning but my background is mostly a P28 ECU and an EPROM writer, laptop, and proggie..

Does your setup offer data logging at least with it or is a 3rd party?

Yes its HPtuners vcm pro suite. It has a seperate scanner aside from the editor. From playing with this chevy tune it seems pretty user friendly but i know from downloading other stock tunes that they dont all have the same options. SS cobalts have a "piston protection" option that dumps fuel in an overheat setting under boost. My pontiac g5 (same car) does not.

Yes. Its hp tuner vcm pro suite. It data logs through a scanner program and you can idividually change every little aspect on a chevy ecu with it but it says credits can be purchased for chevydodge and ford.
