Adding oil to a stock is the equivalent (visually) of adding glass to a picture frame, it's why wetting dry wood makes it look dark and rich. Now if the stock is oiled, it should only be oiled with the oil it was oiled with (catch my drift? ;) ) Balistol is supposed to be ok on wood, but it's not a good idea for regular gun oil as it just causes the wood to expand etc etc.
