My right front speaker now sounds like it is muffled/buzzing.

Is there anything better than stock that isn't a wallet sucker? I have extra stock speakers but want an upgrade.

Was looking at the Rockford Fosgate P1683 has anyone used them?

Speakers are a VERY subjective thing.

What sounds good to me, may not sound good to you.

I am a huge proponent of components and round drivers (no 5x7/6x8/6x9s). I also like Infinity for better than stock, but not all out (good mid grade line - where it sounds like you are looking at).. Rockford Fosgate has always been one of the brands I liked, but not sure why. Cant say Ive actually heard any of there speakers in person installed before.

For short term use, I got the cheapest HU and Speakers I could find. Boss 616UAB HU and Boss CH5530 5.25 3-ways. Swap Meet find. $20 all in! Im hoping these will get me by until I can properly do an audio system in the Ranger.

Having said all of that, I typically am a bit of an audiophole. It all started when I was able to afford to pay for a $15k system. All ARC Audio, metered at 143db clean. (The looks from bumping Mario Kart Wii - And NEVER play Mario Kart Wii or any other video game for that matter while driving) I still have the amps and active crossover from that install and may be using them in the future...

If you wanted to stay with RF - This is the speakers Id recommend. Punch 6" Components. Te Midbass Driver should fit in the stock location. The tweeter and crossover will take a little bit of custom install finesse, but not too difficult. This is an install anyone should be able to do. (well, 95% should be able to do).

OK thanks for the info, round does make sense since guitar strings are round, drums are round....

I'm not married to any particular branding I used to by Pyle Driver back in high school, was better than spark-o-matic and sounded almost as good as the Craigs. Wow I'm old LOL.

Your only as old as you feel.. Or so Im told.

I plan on using a model or 2 old Infinity Kappa 5.25 Components. You can usually get the older models much cheaper than the current ones.

https://www.amazon.com/Infinity-509CS-Two-Way-Speaker-Component/dp/B00190Z7YY/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1509329925&sr=8-4&keywords=kappa+5.25+components

If I was buying new speakers today, thats probably what I would get. Tho if I could actually afford my old system, Id get a set of ARC Audio Blacks (there only like $600).

And SOUND DEADEN your doors!!! Get 4 sheets (not talking complete coverage) of Dynamat / RammMat / Second Skin (this is what I've used in the past - highly recommend) / Whatever. 2 sheets per inner door skin will do wonders.

If all you really care about is people hearing your rattle trap a mile away, go to your local swap meet and get the largest Crunch AMP and Sub. Put it in a sealed box and off you go. 160db of pure vibrating noise. All for under $100 if you shop around! BUt for some reason, I suspect your not 16yo and looking for that...

STILL haven't purchased speakers. This thing is getting worse and worse every day especially with the new head unit having a little more power. I'll have to do something quickly.

Somebody kick me

What is the output of your new head unit?

I haven't tore into the door panels to see what size the stock speakers are. The rears on my '04 look to be 6x9's. I am looking at a new head unit that has 20 watts per channel and I will be upgrading the speakers as I am pretty sure the stock speakers will not handle the new head unit.

They had been previously blown, the new head unit makes it worse LOL. I don't remember the output and I'm at work on break, this is a pic though:

I have been looking at the model that replaced your head unit. It puts out 14 watts RMS and 50 peak with 4 speakers. BTW: According to Crutchfield both the door and rear speakers are 6x9's.

My plan is to remove the left power source and mount a USB and Aux ports to go to the rear ports. Also to install one of the $80 license plate back up cameras.

I put a USB charger on the right and USB/AUX on the left here for the head a long time before I actually got the head unit.

And copy away, luckily the plastic interior on a mountaineer I stripped was the same color so I cut the plastic from that.

I made metal brackets for the plugs and there is 2 screws in the bottom you can't see in the pic holding it in.

Why I asked, you questioned the best speakers for your application, Pioneer has, on their Site, a Component Matching Matrix.  You plug in your Head Unit and they list all of the components that work with your head unit, and/or which components work with the head and amp.   I used it years back with a Stang setup I did and it work out OK for my tin ears, and I used it to select the system that will be installed in this Ranger.
If you do the speakers over, two things...  one would be to use Speakers Pods and two, use Sound Deadening Material in the Door while they are apart.   Music will sound SSSSOOOOO much better than you could expect, I was surprised just by using the Pioneer/Explorer Front Speaker and a little bit of FatMat.
Also, for OEM Stuff... the Explorers with the Pioneer Systems, I took a set of Speakers and amp from one, the rear speakers looked the same, the amp never got used and sold, but the front speakers made a big difference in the quality of the sound of the music.  They were Co-Axil Speaker, 6" round, and bolt in, but when I used my Digital delivery system I could hear the highs like never before.  So get decent speakers for the front.

Thanks, I always thought the Cubby Hole would make a great location for Switches but never thought about using it for the USB and Power Plugs.
I was thinking an aluminum plate over the front and holes in it as needed, out of the way and useful.

Also, now that I have your attention, please read the postings in the Mitutoyo Caliper Thread, thanks.
