I have a 2003 ford expedition. It has a after market dvd head unit in it with a cracked screen. I would like to put back stock head unit. The vin tag says it had radio K in it. I Know that they used the same head units in the rangers. Dose anyone one know what head unit K is? Is it single cd w/ cassette or 6 cd changer? I haven't found anything clear on the internet.

According to the factory shop manual, K code on the 2003 Ranger Certification Label is for AM/FM Dual Media (single CD and cassette). An OK factory head unit but sometimes has problems with cracked solder joints and no display. A radio shop or good DIYer can often fix this.

Don't know if the Expedition uses the same codes.

Its possible.  The XLT had that unit.

Regardless, neither OEM head unit from that area was reliable, or had quality sound.

My 2C, you can probably get an aftermarket unit for cheaper than getting a used one unless you find one here from a member.

I have a couple extra stock ranger units if they will fit you can have one of them. Shipping is free since I'm delivering.

See if No Power's fits it!

I'm going to check to see if the plugs are still intact. NoPowers radio had a decent sound if it will plug in. Jim is one of yours a single cd player like in NoPower? This Expedition is a FX4 Autotrac

Just my opinion, but although the '03 Radio wasn't top of the line it didn't have bad sound.
Not the quality high priced stereo but ixxxxf you added a digital interface, it had a good sound.

BUT... why bother with the CD6 or even the Pioneer Version of the same Radio ?
Are you trying to restore the truck or do you want good sound ?

To me, not one to restore my Ranger, a good aftermarket head Unit would work in there just fine !

The after market has a cracked screen due to a 2x4 going through it. The Expedition has ear phone jaxs & controls the can operate from the rear second seats for a stock radio. I use to be big in audio sound, but at my age in my life I don't need a pavement thumper. I've got that in the Mustang for Rush & AC/DC videos.

Watch out on this one. A Ranger radio often does not have the ability to operate from aux controls on the steering wheel or in the second seat. Using the factory Dual Media HU as an example, the Explorer and presumably the Expedition have extra connector receptacles on the back. The almost identical (in outward appearance) Ranger Dual Media in my 2003 did not have those. When I swapped a steering wheel with aux controls into the Ranger, I also swapped to the Explorer Dual Media to make everything work.
