2004 Ranger XLT FX4 4 liter V6

How do I determine what transfer case is in my truck? I was out wheeling and it started making a very bad clunk in low range and it was very difficult to get out of low range. It seems fine in high range and two wheel drive.

Crawl under and look at the label attached to it - according to Ford it should be a BW1354 but who knows whether it has been changed over the years - electric boxes have a solenoid bolted to the back, manual ones don't.
