I have owned this gem three times now. They say the third times a charm. It's a 95 splash 2.3 5 speed. This truck hasn't been on the road since 2003. Believe it or not it's still solid. It has one spot of rust along the left floor board of the cab.

My plan went from boosting the 2.3. To know it will a 5.0 swap. The plan is to build a street cruiser if you will. Mildly built 302 and c4 auto. Something in the neighborhood of 450hp.

I have already started acquiring parts for the build. I secured an 8.8 torsen and 3.73 gears. $50 Facebook find. I ordered all new hangers shackles bushings and shocks for the rear suspension. And received a Holley 750 double pumper for free from a friend.

Cab is separated from the chassis. Now for countless hours of wire brushing on the frame. And replacing the left floor pan.

It amazes me how nice this truck is for sitting in the weeds for the past 20 years.

Did some work on the frame tonight. I got all the rear hangers off and prep and painted the spots where the hangers mount. Also changed the bushings in the leaf springs. I'm struggling with finding u-bolts to fit the torsen 8.8. Bolts for a 4x4 are to long. I'm going to call a local spring shop and see if they can't make a set.

Frame work continues. I had a rusted out crossmember that goes in between the rear cab mounts. I spent a few hours fabricating a new one.

I love days in the shop. When I'm not underground I get paid to make my stuff. Fabricated a new rear crossmember for project pieces. Ford really dropped the ball on the design of the factory crossmembers. Since I have already replaced 2 crossmembers I have elected to just go ahead and replace the remaining 2 stock ones. I'm thinking about designing my own transmission crossmember to help aid in header and exhaust clearance. I've seen where the collectors on tri-y headers fall dead center of the transmission crossmember. I'm thinking of adding a 4” tube for the exhaust to run through. Kinda like GM used to do back in the day.

I forgot to filter GM as a bad word!

Too bad you live so far away, I have a garage full of parts and a 2wd 5.0 expo in the driveway. Getting too old these days to do stuff and enjoy it!

I'm definitely interested in the expo you have. That would be a perfect donor. If you would be willing to sell it?

Crossmembers are done. New spring bushings will be here Monday. Still debating on weather to flip the spring hangers or not?

Depends. Is the rear end you bought out of a ranger? If so and you are keeping the same size tires I wouldn't flip it. If you are going bigger in the back for tires, flip it. If you are putting an expo rear end in definitely don't flip it will be low enough with the rear end on top of the springs. Might even want to raise it a little. If an expo rear end and you are busting the perches and welding them on the other side.. flip it?

You need to toss a 6 sided coin to figure it out. Whatever you do don't have the front higher than the back as you will be labeled LOL.

I have a torsen rear axle that I'm putting in. I'm leaving the spring perches where they are. I'm just debating on flipping the rear spring hangers upside down to lower the back of the truck. I have an old set of dream beams for the front. Just not sure if I want to lower the truck or not

Those things come out? Not the kid, the bushings!

News to me I thought they were a permanent part of the leaf springs.

A ball joint press makes quick work on removing them

I changed a few things. I also modified the sway bar mounts so they would fit the bigger axle tubes of the 8.8

Well made a 4 hour round trip to our fearless leaders house and secured a major piece for the build. A 2wd v8 explorer. I couldn't thank you enough Jim. I'll post pictures tomorrow after I take the wife to buy a new couch. Apparently the one bought last year doesn't fit our lifestyle anymore. Oh well she gets couch I get a parts car

You're welcome bud, I expect to have to make a 4 hour round trip just to take it around the block when you're done!

I had to spend some money last night on the wife also, unfortunately she was aware that I had more than 5 bucks in my pocket.

Ordered a bunch of parts for the splash. Today I received the tri-y headers for it along with a foxbody mustang oil pan a   load of a fittings and braided lines for the oil filter relocation kit and fuel system. And the rickzrangers motor mounts.

While I was ordering parts I went ahead an ordered new rod and main bearings and piston rings. I figured I'd freshen up the 302.

I also picked up a 351w that I'm going to to use to build a 387 stroker. Pretty simple and cheap stroker engine. It uses a stock bore 351 block stock 351 rods and stock 302 pistons. The stroke comes from the 3.850 stroke crank. The crank is available at Summit for like $400 and it's cast steel. Should be a decent little runner
