I drove this thing home, brakes grinding like crazy but past idle it seems to run good. Steers good, rides smooth, paid less than 500 bucks. Ugly but no rust.

Been pecking at it for weeks as weather permits, plan is to get it in good enough shape to drive through the winter so I can work on my little silver Ranger. Since it is a 5.0 it would also make a good donor.

225,000 miles, interior looks really bad, OHC doesn't work, no lights on the radio.

I wrote this in another post:

"It's home. Sitting out there. It has an array of problems I will start to list on saturday when I do the front brakes. (yeah right)
Funny thing is... it drives and steers and doesn't squeak or pull one way or the other, shocks and tires feel good...

First glance, driver door can only be opened from the inside, OHC display is dead, radio display is dead, looks like the sun roof has been leaking since 2002, and it is hit and miss between 7 and 8 cylinders. No ticks or knocks, has to be injectors or plugs or wires ALL of which I have. Well I don't have the right injectors LOL but I have injectors.
OH and the interior light stays on for about 45 minutes after you close the doors.

Doesn't look like it has ever been in an accident. I have pics but they are on my phone. I can't upload pics any more since I forgot my password and are too lazy to reset it."

I didn't know I had pics on my phone, I'll look for them.

I already wrote somewhere that I had the gas shocks for the hood now it stays open.

I put the door handle on, it's black and the rest of the truck is white but who cares!

The interior lights don't stay on anymore, it was the switch in the hatch. A little bit of spray penetrating oil and we are good to go.

The negative battery cable was on by a prayer, a cheap replacement that would neither clamp on the post or hold wires.
I replaced it, I had one of those fancy audio terminal types that I put on, and I connected the long neglected ground wire. The battery charges now.

So I tried to turn the heater on.... nothing. No fan. Looked at 20 fuses and traced wires all the way to the fan. Good voltage at the fan so the motor was blown.
Turns out Ford must have been using the same fan in multiple vehicles for years, I had one! Put it in and it blows! Cold air.

I looked at the heater hoses and one was a lot colder than the other, I figured the heater core was clogged.
Today I took the hoses out and backflushed the heater core. Didn't get much crap and it was flowing well with a water hose.
Put the hoses back on and checked the water level... couldn't see any. Put about a quart and a half of antifreeze in it then started filling with the hose. It was at least 3 quarts low maybe a little more. Put the cap back on, started her up.

Wasn't 5 minutes till I had good heat whew. Suspected the blend door at first also.

10 minutes later I start getting sprayed with water. Looked like it was coming out the side of the radiator so I took a close look... was running beside the cap down the side. Well no pressure so I took it off. Happened to have a good one so swapped them... no leak.

The heater didn't work because there was no water and there was no water because the radiator cap was damaged.

Now I have heat, I can get in the thing, the hood stays up, all the lights work, the battery charges, it holds its water. Time for the brakes finally!

I only have one picture of it that I know of:

Dang, disappointment. I took one of the front tires off to start the brakes. It's a 2WD.

Making it more marketable for 2wd conversions BUT none of the parts I have will fit it. I have new rotors and calipers and shoes... maybe the calipers will fit but this sucks. Even if I fix it I can't drive it in the winter if it snows. Well I could but I really wanted a 4WD.

I just happened to find a set of rotors in my garage, brand new that only fit an expo 2wd or a Ranger 2wd with torsion bars. My 2wd has coils so I cannot use them for the ranger.
Guess the Expo gets slotted rotors, premium metallic pads and a set of red calipers. Might as well before they rust!

Promise pics for the next phase.
