Back on March 30 I special ordered a F-350 XLT Supercab with an 8' bed, 7.3L Godzilla engine, 4:30 gears, uplifter switches, XLT Convenience package, and gooseneck hitch package.  The truck would be available at the end of May or early June for a $500 deposit. Two weeks after the order I was notified the gooseneck hitch package was no longer available but the build would continue with everything else.  The dealer left a message that the order had been canceled by Ford today.  The dealer also informed me that F-350's are in short supply and there is not a XL or XLT with a 7.3L 2wd SRW within 500 miles.

Time to rethink this. I can switch over to a Diesel but that also opens up the field. A Ram is out because of their issues with the torque converters taking a dump just after  the warranty  runs out. I will blow through the warranty in the first year. The GM's weak link is the ho-hum Duramax performance but it does have the Allison transmission. The other drawback to a GM is the never ending recalls.  I have read about issues with Ford's  10-speed behind the PowerStroke. Used is out of the question as the used prices are outrageous. I will be searching for a F-350 Diesel 2wd. I will also be contacting Enterprise pro-rental to see what they have in a one ton with a gooseneck for a 3 month lease.

Isn't much of a surprise..

2018 year just in F150's - 909,330 trucks were sold alone.  For year 2021, Ford sold a TOTAL of 1,331,542 vehicles. Only just over 1.3M cars & trucks.

All manufactures are reporting similar.  I would assume they would have even less this year.

I don't want to turn your post into a political one, but we all know this is part of the plan.

It should come in at $52,489 not counting the taxes and destination charges. That is unless it gets rolled into the 2023 model. The 2023 is supposed to have a body change on the Super Duty lineup and the prices will go up. I supposedly got the order in two weeks before the cut-off date. I should have a VIN by the end of next week to make the 2022 year model.

Another rumor I have been told is that there are thousands of built trucks that need computer chips to finish them off where they will be titled as 2023's Legacy models.  The new body Super Dutys will be fleet trucks with few options.

I work for a plastics injection molding company that makes automotive and medical parts and sub-assemblies.  A lot of our automotive orders are way down due to the chip shortage.  Yes, you heard right; lots of vehicles basically complete except for the chip.  Buying a new vehicle is like buying a house (price-wise).  No way I will EVER buy a new one.

A 2 year old used Super Duty with 50k miles is selling for what it retailed for 2 years ago. If you can fine one.  A year old truck is extremely rare to find with less than 80k miles on it as it was kept 0n the road and flipped for another Super Duty that will have 100k on it in a year. I found a 24k mile repo where the bank wanted $400 more than the factory sticker and it had been in an accident according to the Carfax. Anything 3 years and older is a maintenance liability for what I am going to use the truck for. I will be flipping it after two or three years for a new one.

I have a business opportunity that requires a one ton truck.  I will be putting 65k to 75k miles a year  on it.  I will trade it when it hits 16ok-175k miles in about two and a half to three years.

Hmmm  I thought you were "retired"!

It must pay pretty darned good to be able to drop +/- $55k for a truck you are going to wear out in a 10th of the normal time.

Back in 2014  I took an early retirement when I blew out my knee. It took two years of therapy before I could walk without pain and I took a medical retirement 6 months after my accident.  I kept up the therapy for another 18 months to get to the level where I could walk for a half hour without any problems.  I have a medical pension and also a military pension. I have retired twice. Once with 21 year military service and a second time medically due to a knee injury. I have had a class A  CDL with all endorsements except Tanker.  I drove a school bus for the past 3 years. I have an acquaintance that needs a 12k pound product delivered from Savannah GA  to Alpharetta GA  twice a week and is willing to pay  just over $900 a load. I have also found a producer needs to ship a load once a week from Atlanta to Savannah for $800. The loads match up.

I will be dropping about $95K on this venture counting the truck , trailer, with the bindings and tarps. I should make it all back 11 months in the year. Years two and a percentage into year 3 will net good profit.

Yeah, that sounds like retirement! ;-)

I can see where you could make some good profit from that.

I paid $49,900 for my first house. Acre and a quarter, 3 bedroom, attached garage, fenced yard and circle driveway. Times have changed.

My first house was a 3 bedroom, 1800 sq ft, on an acre of land with the rear property line five feet past a levee to a five acre pond. It also had a swimming pool and a pole barn. I think I paid $42k for it back in 85 and Zillow has it valued at $185k  now.

My first house was $25,500.  Standard city lot, 1/4 of a block in a small town.  FmHA had repossessed it and I was able to buy it by just taking over the payments and they changed the name on the title/deed.  No down payment, no closing costs.  The realtor that handled the deal was a friend of mine from school and refused a commission.  I bought him and his wife a nice steak dinner.  That was 1987 in life 1.0.
