Problems most American public have with turbos, unless a gear-head is that we as a society are in always such a hurry to get as much of anything or nothing done in a day, that we hotbox our vehicles and when we get to the destination we shut it down, jump back in it 20 mins later, rage on the vehicle, shut it down, and over repeated treatment and the increasing lack of preventative maintenance vs fixing it when and only after it breaks.
The turbo systems never cool down properly, the oil caramelizes in the lines, becomes liked clogged arteries in the system, less oil equals less cooling, failures, driving habits all combined.. deemed poor design or driveability idea. Not saying anything outside of societal changes affect things including how we take care of ourselves and vehicles.
Personally I do agree somewhat on the v6 N/A though.. but the option to add a turbo to that whether diesel/gasoline would be nice too for the Ranger. I really gave grief to every Nissan opted opportunity when they touted putting the Cummins in the Frontier and failed only to run 3-4 years of the 5.0L varient in the Titan. They would have turned the US market for midsized trucks with a Diesel option on its end and they chickened out because of politics and poorer decision making in my opinion because they just needed to build a 5/8 ton truck that actually was the thickness of the dividing line of 1500 series compared a 2500 series sized truck. Utter sillyness in marketing and need for the free market and interest of truck buyers. Unless you were a die-hard Titan fan, you had to fill the bed with discounts to off many of those trucks.
As for cost, comparatively the Ranger is right up there with everyone else and even down under, the Ranger and the Hilux in the market place are always head to head in competition. The fact they have other trucks and UTEs that round out markets is also interesting, much like the new Maverick, the Hyundai Santa Cruz, and there's another one or two coming about. Plus you have an industry here for some reason being HARD driven for EV vehicles and although I see a use and a purpose, I don't fully feel the bombardment of it all. EV or Electric is NOT the answer to everything although I find it purposeful when it is desired or needed. I tend to look at it more like an industry bubble building something out of nothing because that's how our economy works, backwards from debt not positive cash flow.
Otherwise we wouldn't be being penalized with inflation as a hidden tax.
