I thought FX4's and sport models had 31spline 8.8 standard? How can you identify a 31spline without breaking out the tools? Lol

My '11 Sport has the 8.8 and 31 spline, as did both of my '02 FX4s.  My '08 Mustang GT has an 8.8 and I'm pretty confident that it's 31 spline. I'm not sure if there's a different length on the axles or axle housings though.

My Mustang rear end has several differences though, spring perches, an "eye" atop the diff for the upper control arm. Shock mounts should be the same, but spring perches would need to be removed to mount u-bolts and leafs. Maybe a newer or older Mustang read end would suffice though.

To answer your question though, measure your axle tubes. The larger tubes (3 1/4" which is 10.25" circumference) are the 31-spline axles. The smaller (2 3/4" which is 8 5/8" circumference) tubes are 28-spline. The last link below says the tubes are 3" (not 2 3/4") and 3 1/4" respectively, just measure and see where you end up. Good info in these links though.

Yes though it is good info if I use it directly I have copied it.

I will however use parts of it for searches in alldata and other resources I have and if any other article confirms it I will feel OK using the info.

I'm big on not copying because of a couple reasons.

a. It is wrong, and has several legal and moral negative implications.

b. Data from ANY SOURCE should be verified. The fact that you actually owned these vehicles and posted here is certainly verification.

We all know TRS exists, it has been an incredible resource for ranger info for as long as I can remember. I have spent countless hours on Jims site doing research. I am not trying to be TRS or will never copy articles from TRS for my site. I am building something different but on the same subject. There is one thing we have here that he don't, that is an incredible friendliness. There has never been a welcome thread here that has gone 24 hours without being replied to and Don does a great job of welcoming people even before they post. You won't find that over there.

I am a wall to wall Ranger lover and have been gaining massive experience over the past few years working on various rangers. I have always loved Rangers but had the disadvantage of being raised in a less fortunate family and only had the money in the past few years to take chances on losing money LOL.

Full speed ahead, there is no competition between the two Jims, he is the king of Rangers and Ranger forums. I will be happy being second in a search right under him on the same first page, good enough for me. October will be one year and we are already appearing in the first page for many ranger related searches. My determination far outweighs my available funding.

Not all today- but in the last few days. Put in a spare mount, finished the lift, got it aligned, ordered the parts for the front grille swap.

I installed my 140mph speedometer in my 87 v8 swap truck yesterday. Was a looooooong search for that speedo unit, but well worth it in the end..

If I were to switch out speedometer assemblies with something aftermarket/universal, I'd go for the Speedhut GPS speedo units. Fully customizable in every way, easy to hook up, no trans speedo gear or rear axle gear worries about speedo accuracy, and you can get them in the right size to fit the 1st gen Ranger factory dash holes pretty well.

But here's my speedo after repairing a paint defect the best I could and installing it. So far it's accurate to within 3mph at anything up to 100mph. I haven't tested it any faster than that just yet.

Nice speedo! Intellitronix has a GPS driver for their speedometers also.

I just drove mine today, nothing special.

Just closed the hood after diagnosing/cleaning/repairing the horn circuit for a couple hours. I removed the steering wheel, cleaned the slip-ring, and re-applied contact grease to the entire area to eliminate a slight squeak I had from time to time. I also filled up the spring-loaded contacts with electrical grease while I was that deep in to it. I tested the horn buttons to see if they had continuity and activated properly. All was good. Turns out the horn was blown. It sqwonked at best, but very intermittently while testing, and never once worked by pushing the buttons on the steering wheel.

After that, I pulled a horn off one of my parts trucks, tested it to verify it was good, cleaned it up, and painted the bracket. I'll get it installed tomorrow.

The horn has never worked since I got the truck, so it'll be nice not having to rev the V8 to say "hey" to people I know.

Memsie, if those are the typical Ebay headlights/corner lights, then prepare yourself for the corner lights to lose their lense. They get hot in the sun and the adhesive turns to goo. I had it happen with three sets, and yours look identical to mine. The seller kept sending me new sets, including the headlights. lol

The last (3rd) pair of corner lights I installed, I mixed up some epoxy and filled the backside of the lenses, where they meet the inner section. A completely permanent repair.. Hopefully the manufacturer has updated the adhesive they use, but I wouldn't bet on it. They probably have thousands of these things in a Chinese warehouse.

Cant wait! Luckily it only gets hot here for a week or so in the summer. Gives me 10 months to buy some better ones. What did you end up getting as an upgrade?

It wasn't really hot here when I lost the lenses. Just parking in the sun was enough to do it. I edited my previous comment about the repair I came up with, and it's been flawless.

Got it. I need to take them off in a bit anyway so I'll glue them down. Long shot but you have any idea where to get the clips that hold bolts to secure the side markers? Right now they're ziptied.

Most parts stores carry various sizes of those clips. Usually in their Dorman HELP section. Lots of names for them. U-clips, fender clips, etc.. Though I don't remember mine having those u-shaped metal clips with the threads in them. I remember mine having a square plastic piece that snapped in and had threads in it.

Also, be aware, when using the epoxy to glue the lenses, you will see it on the outside. Through the lens. More powerful glues such as Superglue may also discolor the plastic lenses. Just something to be aware of..

for plastic use a two part epoxy or just clear silicon
All the ebay lights I use get treated with clear silicon on the back side to keep moisture out and to adhere the lenses
It is a quick and cheap way to make your cheap lights work like stock lights
