The new ranger is too big for me, so depending on price, and drive train + fuel economy, I might be interested. 

I know it's FWD based, but if it has a PTU/RDM like the Current Jeep Cherokee, which basically puts a low gear in the gear box and rear drive, so you get low range without having to have a separate transfer case. 

If I can fit at least a 31" tire, get 25mpg, and have it be at the $25k mark MSRP for 4wd. I would be very interested.

 Not impressed. I also checked out the Bronco Sport and Bronco which is to be released next month. I might could go with a Bronco with the V-6 twin turbo if they mated it up to a manual transmission with a granny gear. There are a lot of new 4x4's that have hit and are hitting the market this year or next year. I am afraid that Ford will overprice the Bronco and Bronco Sport like they have the new Ranger.

 I'll have to see if I can find the article, but I think Getrag was commissioned to design a transmission, and most thought it was for the Bronco.  It was rumored to be a 7 speed with a crawler low gear.

 If the bronco is a 7 passenger, and I don't think it is, I would buy one. I got 4 kids. the vast majority of off road capable vehicles simply do not work for me. My truck is my 4th vehicle, so the smaller the better.

 I don't think I am interested in the costs of a new vehicle.  My Ranger does everything I need, and it's paid for.  So are all my bikes.  Besides, I decided a while ago that the next purchase will be a new bike, an electric.

 I like the 2021 Bronco 4 door from what I have seen.
The little Bronco "sport" based on the escape is meh, another cute yute crossover thingy, flash in the pan, outback wagon type utility wagon, not excited but I am sure some people will love them just like the "edge" and the "Flex"
The 2019 Ranger is nice but 4 cylinders with a large price tag
A new "courier" pickup might fit the bill but Ford just posted they have lost billions in 2020 so far, so who knows what will be built and what won't. I do know you can get a 84 month loan with no payments due for the first 3 months now and 0 interest for a long ass time....they are desperate to sell off what they have now........
So F150, Ranger AND a courier?? Seems a bit crowded

 I would like to see an off-road specific version of the Ranger and the supposed new courier like they did with the raptor. I know the Ranger raptor is available over seas and not in the states, but I think they would sell well here. I don't think that'll happen though because it would probably eat into the f150 sales because you could get a very capable truck for less (in most cases).

As a flex owner... I love that damn thing. We're on our second. had a 2011, and now have a 2018. the 2018 is the awd ecoboost flavor. I got 4 kids, and I cannot imagine driving them around in anything less. More horsepower than you got in a ferrari less than 15 years, and grip for days. Plus the third row can hold an adult comfortably, and all the stuff 7 people need for a two week road trip. I like it far better than the explorer it shares a platform with.

hear, hear. if they did a hard core off road version of the Courior, they would sell like crazy. Even if they didn't they would still sell like crazy.

 yes the flex owners all speak like that! They love those things.
I feel the same way about our 01 Excursion 7.3 4x4 :) Holds 7-8 easily and all their gear, can pull a 15,000 trailer while doing it and get 14-18 mpg on 37" tires!!

People love those ridgelines.... so maybe there is a place in the world for a new "courier" type caruck

I know kia/hyundai are coming out with one. would make sense to have a competitor to those vehicles. and they are pushing the whole SUV/Truck line up, and the only "car" they will have is the mustang. 

I personally almost never tow, and when I do, it's a 4x6 little tiny trailer, just big enough for a dirt bike/quad. My truck is mostly a commuter car when I cannot take the bus into work. it does some off road duty, mostly to take me to my favorite shooting spot, and haul stuff home from the home improvement store. If the courier is available with at least... 12" of ground clearance, and 31" tires (or can have them added without modification), a really good awd system, and tow say 4500-5000lbs, and get north of 20mpg highway, and all that cost around $25k? I would probably have one in my driveway. I'm sure it will cost $30k, have 6-8" of clearance and max out at 28" tires tho... which will make me a bit sad.

Toyota has done the same thing with the Tacoma which is still smaller than the Toyota Hilux which everyone makes the assertion is the U.S. based Tacoma and it's not, as has Chevy/GMC with the Colorado & Canyon in replacement of the S-10 and S-15 P/U.

FWD Pickup truck seems rather useless considering even as large as you say the New Ranger is "too big" many complain about the 5ft beds.. imagine how useless a FWD Truck on a "Unibody" would be with a bed that's pretty much looking like what the New Courier kinda is. It's basically a late 80's Ford Escort/Mercury Linx, maybe even a Ford EXP with the hatch removed and a truck bed fashioned in it vs the Mazda B2000 its compared to in the article.  AWD Drive train let alone the use of low gears seems more like a fantasy than something Ford would really give its customer base especially considering the market. As a 93' and 94' Ranger owner, my truck does often seem like the old pre-1995 Toyota P/U before it took on the Tacoma name plate and minuscule in comparison to the New Ranger.

But I am far larger than a 95' NSX... lol





With Ford chasing the paper that Toyota Tacoma's bring in, basically you can put a Tacoma TRD Pro easily into the $49-51k sticker price. The New Ranger is apparently not leaving any money on the table, meaning they're charging $40k for a Lariat 4x4 trim.

As a FWD, it may get close to that 25mpg or even better, but seeing Rav4's now with 2.5" Lift kits and able to add 31" BFG At3 tires does affect that 28-34mpg.., and a RAV4 in AWD starts at about $28,500 after Destination and has a better cost of ownership to it than most Ford's unfortunately to Fords credit.

 Saw two of the new Bronco's in camo driving through town.  Reasonably good sized, smaller than the Grand Cherokee that was behind them.  Got a couple pics, not great shots, but I can post them if anyone is interested.

 I am not that thrilled with the renderings of the new Bronco, so that is out, the new Ranger is OK looking but for me to expensive for what I would want, & if the new Courier looks anything like what the pic in the link in the first post looks like it is a big NO for me. My Ranger is fine for me, & my wife loves her 99 Explorer Sport plus they are paid for. If Ford made another 2 door SUV we might be interested, but that probably will never happen since mostly all vehicles are geared towards families, & the price would probably sky high. Since we have no kids we have no use for a 4 door vehicle.

 That Bronco has a HUGE C-pillar.  I like the grille, decent size.  I haven't really followed it lately so I don't know where it may fall price wise.  But I am curious if it will show up with a possible Gertrag 7-speed.  I wouldn't mind 4 doors with my grandson around.  But I am not interested in payments.  Truthfully, my next purchase will probably be an EV.  Bike.

 The look of Courier isn't bad for what it is, not for me but it looks far better than the Ranger ended up !


I am not sure of the Bronco look, I've seen a few iterations but I really don't know what it will finally look like.
I am sure it WILL NOT BE what I think of as an Off ROAd Worthy Vehicle, it might run off road but not like the old Bronco.

Ford as most companies in business are in business to make money, and making a truck that looks like a car is what sells to the younger set.

So what all my talk adds up to is easy, either keep what I have a great 2003 Ranger, paid for, doesn't cost that much to operate, lower road taxes, OR buy a 1952 Ford F1 Pickup... !
Too bad those ar the only choices.

I have heard Ford is in major trouble, they were in trouble before the isolation and now they have lost a lot of money.
Ford's biggest sale pitch is an 84 month interest free package, they need to discount their trucks and give the 84 month free financing before I buy something new.
Of course it won't be a Ranger, or Bronco but a new F-150 or F-250 could be in the works !
