When I went to insure Redrum, I filled out the VIN off the new title. Progressive said it could not match it for insurance. ?

So I went out to the truck, the VIN on the truck is the same as the title except for the last number which is a 5 on the title and a 4 on the truck.

I have a copy of the original title, it ends with a 5 also so it has been wrong since the kid bought the truck in 2015 maybe longer.

I went ahead and insured it with the proper VIN and I understand all the silly little legal implications HOWEVER it is obviously a mistake and not a vehicle identity theft being it is only off by one number.

Has anyone had to deal with this? This is most unusual.

It might be simple or you could have a big problem. Did you get a bill of sale with the correct vin on it?

You can search both vins and see what happens...not sure what this would accomplish, but you could uncover something fishy. Or could be a simple mistake. That's just what my paranoid mind would do

The VIN on the title does not exist. No vehicle tied to it. Take the 5 away and put a 4 there, you have yourself a 98 ranger.

You would think since I got the title at a.... title place they would have a red flag attached to a number in their system that is not tied in with a vehicle.

I am simply eternally grateful that nobody in this thread has called it a VIN number. Thank you all.

LOL there are trucks locally that say "City of Grove City" which is actually proper but still hits the grammatical palate wrong.

It's a conspiracy put into place by The Man so you have to keep the truck :P lol

I think that since the other truck does not exist it is an obvious typo somewhere along the line you should go to dmv and get the correct person to help you change the title. You may have to do a vin inspection with a deputy to confirm the mistake.

Just lose this Title and apply for a new one with the correct "VIN Number" !
LoL !

Since the Truck is Registered with the Actual Truck's VIN then it shouldn't be a problem but it will straighten things out for the future.

My Jeep Title called out my CJ8 with Half Cab, as an SUV, when I got it I had to go back to the DMV and have them get me a new one that said it was a Truck. I was told all Jeeps are SUVs.. PARDON ME... ! I had a copy of the Title I purchased the Jeep with and pointed out on it that this vehicle was called a Truck... !
I don't think the person liked it but they got me a new Title, now its a Truck !
So where am I going with this, the people typing in the information for Titles don't have any idea, nor do they check what they are typing because "THEY KNOW" what to type and in turn mistakes are made.

Get a new one !
