I plan on pulling the rad and cleaning it out with soapy water. Let that run thru it till it runs clean.
Any other suggestions? Should I wait till the engine is back together and flush it that way?
I almost wanted to say Simple green in very light use but you could use a mild low sudsing detergent shouldn't do anything but the coolant issue you have just may be broken down coolant. I always use to think fresh coolant had a degreasing effect on oily surfaces.. maybe not. Liquid Tide seems to work well for flushing and it doesn't have the caustic ingredients that simple green has so less chance of head gasket damage
Count on replacing all of the rubber hoses after you clean the system, the oil will weaken and soften the coolant hoses and you may have one or more split or slide off its connection point BTDT
