Just removed my old fuel pump.  It's too dark now to put in the new one but I wanted to test out the old pump but wasn't sure of the pinout.  IE:  I just want to take 12v and touch the pin/ground to see if it makes any noise.
I found a pinout but it was for the 4 pin flat type of connector.  My fuel pump connector is 4 pin but round.  Two pins on each side.
Would anyone know of the pinout for a 2001 fuel pump?
Looks like this:

Nigel, I looked it up on the Ford manual CD I have & for either engine for a 2001 Ranger it shows a round connector at the fuel tank but it has eight pins.

That's really strange. Mine definitely has 4 pins. Confirmed by old pump and new pump.

Do all 8 pins on the connector that you saw do anything or only certain ones used?

I really only want to see what the 12v and the ground pin are located so I can jump it and see what happens.

Can you see the wire colors? Pink with black is positive for the pump and black is ground.

2 of those pins are probably zero ohms and both grounds looks like they are hooked together before the fuel pump. The other wires, yellow with white go to the fuel gauge and the black with yellow is the sending unit ground (probably hooked to the black somewhere before the fuel pump).

I will check in the morning. I believe I could see the wire colors at the harness on the truck. A little split loom was covering them but I believe I can move it slight to see.

Perfect for the color! I will look for the pink/w black. I'll report in the morning on what I find.

Thanks for the help!

Jim,

Awesome you are spot on!! Took the loom off the fuel pump that I removed. took 12v to the purple/black wire and ground to the black. NOTHING. I heard a SMALL burble of almost a faint nothing being made... NOT what you should hear when you hear the fuel pump prime/run.

I want to say now with almost 100% that this fuel pump is dead.

Time to install new one!

-Nigel
