So I found my camshaft gear bolt has broke. Also the little pin on the back of the gear has sheared off.
The Back Story: I was driving 55mph when suddenly a loud thump was felt and heard. engine stopped. I pulled over and attempted to start. No go, Got it home checked a number of things, then pulled the valves covers and noticed the valves were not moving. Not good, fast forward 9 months. I finally tore apart the front cover and found the camshaft bolt broken, the timing chain was still on the cam gear. and on the crank shaft. I have a 2000 Ford 4.0 OHV(thank God). my truck only has 148k with 2 new heads
1. Can I drill out the bolt that's in the camshaft, left or right hand threads?
2. Its a stock motor, do I have enough clearance between the valves and the pistons? I've been told I do by a friend who did a google search for me. But I could not find anything.
Thanks Pctc

I do know it is a RH bolt, a torx I took one off a couple days ago. Bolt is probably hard but might not be too stuck, I would try grinding a slot in it and bringing it out with a screwdriver.

As far as an interference motor I don't know for sure, I know the 2.5 isn't for sure but the 4.0 OHV I don't know.

Welcome to F-R!

Thank you for the help and the welcome.

The bolt broke deep in the camshaft. No way to cut a slot into it. I am trying not to remove or replace the cam.

:hi Welcome, Glad you joined us. Have fun and enjoy F-R. Wow that sucks. The next thing is to inspect to find any other damage. Maybe you can get lucky with a new cam and timing chain assembly.

The bolt came Friday.  I installed everything and then realized my cam sensor was off. I thought it would be fine. But it was 180 out.  Got this fixed with an Autozone tool rental. I used the black one. Now I have to figure out why I have no fuel pump. No noise like before.
