hey guys I  have a 1998 ford ranger 2.5l rwd with 5 speed manual transmission. how can I get more hp with my stock 2,5l engine  before doing a swap

They never were amazingly powerful, so outside of normal tune stuff, maintaining it well, your best option is just to live it. Seriously.

Well I've had 2 in my life, neither one was a ball of fire.

I got nothing, perhaps CAI or maybe a tune, short of adding a turbo which might be harder than the swap nothing will kick you in the butt. Head into the swap! I'm determined to finish mine this year and its about the same vehicle. My 5.0 is already under the hood and it was born with a 2.5 but I still have a lot to do.
