When my alternator went bad in my 2000 Ranger it was early AM & I had the lights on, the lights got dim, the CEL came on, the tach quit, & IIRC the gauges were reading very low. I tested the alternator with a digital volt meter & the output of the alternator was about 10.5 volts. Once I replaced the alternator all was good.
That's exactly what's happening to mine

Go out & get a inexpensive digital voltmeter either from Harbor Freight, or get one on line from Amazon, & test the alternator. Here is the link to the one I got.

Here is a link to the test procedure for a Ford alternator that I used.

If you were about 1,030.4 miles closer I would give you one.

UPDATE: it's quit for a while now, but today it started doing it again. Tach, temp, and Speedo quit working and CEO came on except this time it goes on and off and on and off and on...repeatedly. I get to my destination, and try to start it and then this time a NEW LIGHT COMES ON. The right light at the bottom left of the pic flashes really quickly and it still does what it did before, and won't start. I don't have a job right now so I haven't been able to get an alternator, and idk what to do from here. I don't want to sell my truck because it's a great truck and could be something simple and its paid off and in my name with low miles, good on gas...evetything I need, except this problem. I don't have money to fix It or throw parts at it, nor do I have the mechanical/wiring expertise to sort this problem out. Someone please help

It sounds to me like the alternator is going bad, did you ever check the alternator output? Autozone will check the alternator output for free while it is still on your truck, if it is bad if you have a JY near you call them & see what they get for a used one. What year Ranger is yours & what engine is in it?.
