I loaned my truck to my neighbors 25 year old daughter so she could get a love seat for her apartment about 3 weeks ago. She spilled a coke or some other sugary drink on the door and it found its way into the power door lock switch. I sprayed it down with alcohol and put a fan on it to dry it out. It works unlocking and about a third of the time locking.

I took out  the two screws and then popped off the panel.

I then popped the switch housing up through the hole in the panel.

Once I had the switch separated from the housing it became obvious why it was working intermittently.

I used emery cloth on the contacts. Then ran a small strip through the female plug side (sorry no picture).

I used a toothbrush and some Flitz metal polish to scrub down the metal male plug to get rid of the corrosion then cleaned it up with alcohol. Once I was satisfied the corrosion was gone I coated with a light coating of dielectric grease and popped everything back together after I tested it.

Looking at the way the switch pops into the arm rest the panel probably did not need to come off. A flat tool could probably pop the switch housing up through the hole but there is the chance of damaging it.

It took longer to up load the pictures and write this up than it did to fix the problem. Also in true fashion I locked my keys inside the truck once I was through.

Tony,
You do know the secret of unlocking the Ranger Doors without a key.

Answer:  "A Screwdriver" !

I have a hidden key box with a non-pats key on the truck. I have two fobs and I leave the key in it most of the time taking a fob with me. Both fobs were in the cup holders and the key was in the ignition.

I had a buddy slide the tip of his knife under the door handle and push the locking rod with the back of the blade to pop the lock.
