Not my first rodeo here but my exhaust on my DD is once again loose.

3 times in the past on Rangers I have put 2 X 2 piece clamps where the rotted junction is between the last cat and the tube that goes to the muffler.

There is a gasket in there, Advance says it is a walker 31372. Problem is I have 2 of them in my box BECAUSE they are always too big diameter and I end up using the original and crushing it more. Always still leaks a little. One I sawed a chunk out of it so it would fit.

What is the RIGHT flange gasket for this? 2000 with a 3.0, the doughnut gasket between the last cat and the pipe going to the muffler. I did 2 3.0's and one 4.0 all the wrong gasket.

Want to swap rodeos with me? LOL! Man I never want to open a 4406 up for a long time! As for the flange gasket you try a little exhaust putty?

Could be, I'm hoping there is enough left of this one to take in and compare. I'll see if someone has one of them around here to match up.

Jim, what you could do if you keep having problems with it is cut the flange off the back of the cat conv where the pipe to the muffler bolts to & use one of the repair flanges like I used on my Ranger when I replaced the exhaust system this past year because someone cut the old flange off & that was the only way I could repair it. The part # for the repair flange is 41723 & it is made by Walker, & you can get it on Amazon or through Advance Auto Parts, but I am sure any parts store can get it. https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/walker-adapter-41723/10082242-P
If you look at the link I posted the repair flange has bubble type flare on the end of the repair flange taking the place of the doughnut gasket, then the pipe that goes to the muffler just bolts to the repair flange without any gasket & it is a leak free seal. It was a near perfect fit to the cat conv pipe & just for peace of mind I put a muffler clamp on it where it slipped over the cat conv pipe which is not there in the pic because when I took the pic I was not finished yet. That would eliminate the problem of the doughnut going bad & not being able to find the right one. Here is a pic of the repair flange on my 2000 4.0 Ranger.

OK that isn't much more than the doughnut alone and solves 2 problems. I like it, probably go that route thanks

OK bought the flange, nobody had it locally so I did e-bay, with shipping it was still less than 20 bucks and it comes right to me. I'll take pics as I struggle LOL.

Jim, it should not be a struggle to do. Just measure the length of the step up section of the repair flange & cut that much off of the cat conv pipe, give the pipe a light sand to clean up any burrs from cutting the pipe, slip on the flange, bolt it up & put a clamp on the repair flange around the cat conv pipe. Easy peasy.

Ah, you got the parts in that Mike recommended?
Well yes, but I ended up not using them. When I cut the bolts off with a cutoff wheel and punched them out of the front flange, there was quite a bit of the front flange left and the donut gasket actually looked very good. Best one I have seen on a ranger. SO I used a 2 piece clamp for the back flange clamp (which was totally rotted and wasted), ground the spot welds off meant to keep the flange clamp from dancing back on the pipe during assembly at the factory and bolted it on. I don't have pictures it was too dark even in the shop I had no light under the truck was using a flashlight.

I trust I will eventually use the Mike repair method on another Ranger and I have the parts now.

But here is the picture of the clamp I used, I have only seen these at auto zone and they are only 5 bucks. I've had this in my box for years.
