Quick question, my 99 ranger had a similar console. How do you guys keep the upper hinged bracket from breaking?

The few times I let someone grab something out of the truck by themselves they would lean on the console and the plastic piece would snap. I hated that design.

I replaced the fold up arm rest plastic hinge with a metal replacement.

That's different. No idea if it would fit or not, the back portion looks the same where it bolts to that huge aluminum bracket.

You do have the bracket don't you?

Yup, sure do.

Hope everyone had a good Turkey day! I had a productive one. I removed the seat covers from the seats I got from the salvage yard out of that Edge and discovered that the seat frame rails are removable. There's actually 5 bolts holding it in. 4 each corner and one center rear (didn't get a pic of it). Taking the seat apart took some figuring out and patience as I didn't want to break anything or rip the covers. I don't really ever document anything when doing stuff, I just do it so I kept forgetting to take pics lol. But I'll share what I have.

What I started with

Here you can see where someone didn't have the correct tool and tried cutting the seat out. :squint:

and here as well as the bolt locations.

There is a 5th one I forgot to document. It's towards the rear center. Once the bolts are out viola!

So I got the bases and backs separated and covers removed. I moved to the center console arm rest. I am planning to get it reupholstered but I wanted to see how well the cover cleans up first. I didn't document this part :crazy. Fairly easy. Turn it over you'll see where the material is "tucked" around the square opening. Un-tuck it, then carefully just work the cover off. I am gonna take everything to the laundromat down the street from me after work, that way I don't ruin my machine lol. I will post pics of the results...promise lol. After that I finished removing the pin stripes from the tailgate and P/S of the vehicle, then I worked on the damaged tailgate. Again, forgot to snap a finished pic, *Edit, snapped a couple at lunch. :)

After that I jumped into the interior and started to remove everything needed to get to the cluster. The center bezel was easy as there were no bolts holding it in :crazy, gotta love previous owners sometimes :squint:. Got the cluster out, cleaned and replaced the bulbs with LED's from Buggman, Looks SOOOO much better. I went to do the HVAC panel but they had different sized bulbs, so I'll have to contact Buggman and see about swapping them. One question I have is I found an unoccupied plug behind the bezel. I mean the previous owner probably removed something not wanting to leave with the truck as nothing but the radio was hooked up, and the wiring looks hacked, so it'll need cleaning up when I install the newer radio. But like I said I have this unoccupied plug, any ideas what it is?

And another question. After putting the cluster back in I now have the check engine light on :?, is this a normal occurrence when removing and installing and it just needs to be turned off or do I potentially have an issue now? Truck runs normal as far as I can tell. I'll see if we have anything here at work to scan it if not I'll go to Oreillys or something and have them scan it. I promise going forward I'll do better at documenting things lol.

On the HVAC control lights, I feel your pain I have 2 X 2000's with different lights from the factory.

I noticed the one with the T10 base lights (bigger ones) the temp control spins smoothly throughout the range and the one with T5 lights has detents as you turn the temperature knob. Curiosity, yours has which lights and is it smooth or detents?

Much easier to make the T10 look good than the T5, much brighter off the shelf options.

The plug I have a theory and will check it out, probably for the 4WD and yours don't have 4WD. I have a theory that Ford used whatever harness they had in stock at the time!

The CEL, probably a coincidence scan for codes. It might have had a poor connection and you made it better when you installed it.

Night pic of the cluster when you get a chance!

Not sure but I'll check on my lunch break.

What about fog lights? I Googled "Ford ranger fog light plug" and the images that came up look similar.

I'm doing that after work, we have the scan tools here.

Will do!

Nice! Buggman has to have a few T5 based bulbs ly1ng around, you only have a couple choices, a single 5050 white or one of the multiple 3020's. I'm using a 5SMD 3020 on anything that it will fit in, there are some holes just too small though it is a t5 base it has a head that is bigger than a single 5050.

I have one on my laptop but found a better picture from 2 sides.

Looks like they have added about 100 sizes since I bought these but they are as bright out front (5050 has 3 LED's in it, this has 3 singles) BUT it throws some light on the sides also evening out dead spots usually.

I'll verify how many I need and get with Buggman. Any ideas on that mystery plug. When I get home from work I'm gonna poke around under the the front to see if I see any other "mystery wiring" maybe I have the wiring for the fogs lol.

Scanned the truck and got this

Quick google search say it's this

I'm headed to the salvage yard (again :whatever:) tomorrow morning so while I'm there I'll snag that part too if I need it. Gonna inspect the vacuum lines when I get home to make sure they're not cracked. Don't need to be buying parts that aren't the problem.

Mystery plug is for fog light switch, confirmed in my garage 30 seconds ago.

When I saw what it was on the truck I realized I have one in my basement.

And you need 2 lights for the HVAC control. It is the same size that most of the indicator lights in your cluster too. Turn signals and check gauge lights look good with LED's BUT abs and door ajar will have a slight glow when off so leave the regular bulbs in there.

So what all would I need to look for to see if the rest of the wiring is possibly there? I looked under the front of the truck and I didn't see anything not being used or not plugged in, but it wasn't a thorough search.

Also I looked at that IMRC valve and it was a vacuum line

Looks like the previous owner didn't want to spend the big bucks on a new vacuum line :crazy. I patched it up and went to the salvage yard and snagged that IMRC valve anyway just in case. It was also 40% off weekend at the salvage yard due to the "holiday/black Friday" thing so I snagged a bunch of stuff. I got the rear side interior panels, rear speaker covers, the cover for the seat belt switch and ashtray, couple cup holder extensions and an Explorer overhead console. I didn't get the wiring, I'll go back for that later when I read/watch videos of installing it. Less than $30 for everything :).
