Examples such as the following video serve to validate and reinforce my reasons for having and using CCW. Right off the bat there's four in-your-face reasons to have feared for your life and stop that batsh*t crazy/druggie before he had the opportunity to fully raise that sledge hammer.....

Perfect example of why you need to carry.

Anyone remember smokey and the bandit?

I only take my gun off for one thing.

I am almost 100% carry, even when I sleep now. Would hate to get murdered reaching for my night stand so I keep one with me.

Ankle holster at work (and church) since I need to tuck the shirt in. I come through the door after work, straight to the bedroom and one goes on my hip.

Idaho has "constitutional carry", one of the perks of living here. I carry mostly for threat of bear, moose and cat around here but I also carry in town in case some whacko tries something around my kid or grandkids :)

Yesterday an armed citizen saved the day when a gunman opened fire in a restaurant...
An armed society is a safe and polite society

Nope, I want nothing to do with a bear. I have run across a few fox, coyote, raccoons, and bobcats but the biggest threat around NE ATL is the "didnt donuttin's".

I have a small house in western NC and we have a bear problem there from time to time. It is usually late winter or early spring when there is little food around.

yes we have brown and grizzly here, chances of having an issue with one are low but there is a chance. The moose and the bobcats are the big threat. Moose can charge you on your ATV in which case I will open fire, bobcats, well we have kids back here and those things are killing machines so gotta protect ourselves and the kids. Chances of something happening again are low (we also have dogs) but it does happen back here. I carry a 9mm, 10mm and/or a 45 also keep a shotgun close. The shotgun is loaded with rubber bullets/less than lethal because I would really rather just turn the moose around then hurt one... I need to get a revolver so I can carry rubber bullets in my pistol too but I am not a fan of revolvers with kids around.......

We have coyotes in Grove City, evidently there is becoming quite a population I've even seen one. Looks like a large mangy dog they need some serious grooming lessons.

I don't have any pets and that is the main threat
(or treat should I say), small dogs and cats.

I don't carry for animals, just humans that act like animals. Down to a half second draw from my right side practice daily. I need to get some advanced training to make sure I don't freeze in a real situation but I have the draw and the accuracy. Does no good if you stand there like a deer in headlights.

Having been personally charged by a bear while out hunting, I know what the experience is like (fortunately didn't get mauled). As much as everyone wants to be the hero that rushes in and saves the day, and I've heard it all when it comes to what if's and what to do and then some, lol, truth be told, things work so VERY much differently when it's really happening to you, when it's for real, your adrenaline is flowing, heart beating hard, fast and strong, you're amped up and can't stand still because fight or flight is racing through your mind, and the clock is ticking very fast. Which is why dealing with someone like the crazy in the video, the subject of the thread, dealing with him looks pretty good compared to alternatives.

*I light of the fact that a person was killed by a cougar in poor health just over a week ago, the second in 100 years in this state, might be an opportunity for a new thread. Don't forget to include the truth about the 15 attacks in the last 100 years, mot in recent times and not because of the media claim (residences encroaching on wildland) it's because in the mid 90's the voters passed legislation making it unlawful to use dogs to go after cougar and bear. But this is all for another thread.......

Specifically, the ones with a very bad case of distemper. Like the one in the video.
