Congrats to you and your wife to be able to be in that position early in life. I served in the Navy many moons ago. I'm happy for you.

Now that is a road trip!
You are coming right past us here in Idaho, godspeed

I made 7 trips from Denver to Sandpoint this last December, 1300 miles 7 times....My shoulders are still recovering!
Rangers LOVE to road trip!
I drove my BII all over the midwest back in my 20's and 30's, never did let me down not once

5 years in Afghanistan as a contractor you will make more money than what you did for 20 years in the military.

I did it in SatCom.

You couldn't pay me enough to spend one more day away from my daughter.  Period.

I don't need money.  I have no debt.  My kids college is already paid for.  I live in a huge house.

Well i started my trip today.  I drove from my house near lake goodwin to Post Falls Idaho.  I took US 2 instead of I90 because I have driven the 90 a million times.

Totalled 306 miles and got 18.96 mpgs.

Here are a few pictures

First fill up before the day started.

View of the cascades along the west side of US2

Because it was sunday and this place gets packed on the weekends I did't stop.

Random graffiti covered rocks along the highway

Found a cool little town

Here is what Washington looks like once you cross the mountains

Day 2 is in the books.  i am bedded down in Belgrade Montana.  Today was mostly driving.  I visited the Lewis and Clark Caverns and that was a good 5 hour drive plus the time zone, so i wanted to make good time to get there.

I actually left Idaho yesterday but forgot to post this...

The weather was wet and cold, so no real photos until... Montana

After a couple hours of driving Montana opened up, the sun came out and i got some scenery.

Passed this cool old truck on the freeway

The visitor center at the caverns, the view from the area, and then some pictures of the caverns

After the caverns I had only another 45 minutes to the hotel so i was able to stop.  I found this cool old house.

And a double rainbow...

All in all I covered 410 miles.  Due to the fwy speeds and climbing in elevation my mpg's dipped.  I managed 17.6 mpgs today.  But most of MT is 80mph.  I kept the truck around 70-75 because I really felt no need to push the truck that hard.

I thought this was the Hotel you were staying at.

Why not sleep in the back of the truck  ?

Because I am not paying for the hotels.  The navy is.

If I was on my dime I'd camp. But we get per diem for these trips. Fuel($.17 per mile) food and lodging are covered

Was just wondering, looks like a nice place to sleep in, ONCE !

If I may ask, "You said the Navy, Reserve time, Duty time, are you full time Navy" ?
Me, Army, Military Police, Vietnam - 2 yrs on the ground, long time ago now.

I wasn't looking at anyone's notes as to why and how the trip was happening, it was the trip I was interested in !

OK on Active Duty, thank you for your service !

Do you plan 20 years or 30 years ?  None of my business !
It take a special person to make it to 30 years.

What do you do in electronics or "if you tell me you will have to kill me" !

I worked in the Semi Conductor Industry for 20 years, in Quality Assurance, something different all the time !

Safe Trip / Drive Carefully !

20.  At my rank 24 is max without promoting.
As for my job I spent my first tour maintaining and repairing sonar.  I was also a mico/mini repair tech.  Basically component level repair on circuit cards.  As I grew in rank I moved to the tactical side, using the sonar.  Very boring.

Today I did 398 miles and averaged 19.08 mpg with my best being a tank at 19.7.  Their fuel selection is weird here.

I'll post more pictures later

Fully understand. I took my shot at E-8 and missed. So I only logged 20 years 11 months. I could have stayed another 4 years but I was locked out on the E-8 slot. I said screw it - retire.

My speciality promotes 20% or better to e8.  But I'm ready to go home
