My nephew-in-law put his chevy 4x4 in the ditch yesterday afternoon over in SE GA. They had 6" snow and roads were snowed over and he and my niece wanted to see snow around their town. He is book smart but not so much in the common since area and my niece is neither.

Nobody hurt, but they also didn't mention how bad the truck is messed up. He purchased the truck just as he got out of the navy about a year and a half ago. He and my niece got married right before he joined the Navy.

He was in a career field that had most of the NCO's get out by their 10 year mark because of the Optempo. He had made E-5 in under 4 years so there would be a good chance for making rank quickly. But then again he spent 6 months in school and still managed to hit 2 tours: one Med run and one Persian gulf run. In the 4 year enlistment he spent more time out at sea than with his wife.

It's a shame to have so much time away from your new bride, but I thank him for his service and dedication!

Well I am home safely. A 25 min drive from work turned into almost an hour trip. The driveway is temporally cleaned, but it is still snowing heavily & is supposed to go at least until 4:00 pm. I had no choice but to clean the driveway as soon as I got home due to the drifting snow & the darn snow plow that left almost 2' of snow at the end of the driveway. The repairs I did in August on the snow blower made me smile today when I primed it, set the choke, & pulled the cord & it fired up on the first pull.:)

Good deal, Mike! Is this snow part of the Winter Storm Grayson? I just received an email from a customer to confirm support for our supply chain because of the predicted snow accumulations and possible power outages along the East coast.

Kudos on the snow blower maintenance and repairs. High level of satisfaction when you are proactive like that and it pays off! :)

Yes Mike the snow we are getting are part of the storm. On another note I think it is stupid to name all storms instead of just hurricanes.

Yeah, I don't know why they feel that is necessary. Probably gives somebody a job coming up with the names for all the storms and such.

I heard on the weather channel a while back they started doing it because supposedly it makes people pay more attention to storms instead of saying here comes another snow storm. I don't know I am old & I am used to hearing hurricanes named, & the naming of all storms sounds stupid to me. Are people really that stupid that you don't take notice when the weather people say here comes a big nor'easter?.

No idea, Mike. The naming of hurricanes makes sense so you can refer to them years later (Katrina, Rita, Irma) without having to remember a year.

The snow storm is done & it is VERY VERY cold & windy. AccuWeather says it is 10° with a real feel temp of -10°. It is only supposed to get up to 18° today. The lovely snow plows came by late yesterday & deposited more snow at the end of the driveway. Looks like we ended up getting about 12" of the white stuff. I was supposed to go in to work today but my wife & I decided to call out & stay home. I am on vacation next week so I get an extra day. :)

With 12 inches of snow, I would stay home too. Isn't worth the risk of an accident, unless you were a doctor that needed to be working in the ER or something like that.

All it takes in Atlanta is some flurries and idiot driver's come out of the woodwork.

Most of that is due to people who lived in the snow belt, that knew how to drive in the snow, that now have a vehicle running summer tires year round and on road not designed for snow/run-off that are not treated with salt or sand.

When I was in the military I had the joy of taking a class in winter driving at Ft Richardson AK. What was fun was the ice road training class. I also got cross country ski lessons from the military. It made perfect since as I was stationed at MacDill in Tampa FL.

Anytime there is the slightest accumulation on the road the truck is parked and it has to be almost life threatening for me to venture out in the Fusion (it has LS on the front wheel drive).

You sure you aren't referring to Evansville? LOL I know we aren't equipped to handle large accumulations of snow, but like you said, a few flurries and the crazies come out to play... especially the guys with full-size 4x4s.  They think they are invincible.

Soccer and tennis moms in their BMW's and mini-vans with their cell phone planted to their faces.

Atlanta has more BMW drivers per capita than any other city. It has been that way for about 15 years.

Morning Mike! 2* here at 7:00am. Maybe this will kill off some of the summer bugs that have been so plentiful in the last few years. Mild winters allow the little b@stards to survive in larger quantities. Hoping something good comes of these single digit temps.

I hope all of the members in the Northeast are safe, warm, and at home.

I moved away from all that white stuff four years ago, wow, that long back !
Don't need nor want it anymore but I still feel bad for the people that need to live in it !
My old hometown, Gloucester, MA, got flooded out bad, people lost a lot of vehicles and anything in low areas got flooded. I don't believe there were any reported deaths but accidents were all over the place. As stated above, it isn't just Atlanta, GA, that has the idiots that can't stay home when it snows, even if they are told too !

Can't say I miss it but it was a lot of fun driving in the deep snow after the fact !

God Bless all you people out there in the hard weather !

Thanks, it is a slow go but we are managing. We tried living in Florida after we got married 30 years ago, but that only lasted 4 years then we moved back to NJ. I would rather deal with the snow & cold then the 90° + heat for 8 months of the year. I could always put on more clothes to get warmer. I hated having to go from the a/c at work to the a/c in the car to the a/c in the house & almost never having the windows opened because it was just to hot.

I'm the opposite Mike. I grew up in the heat and humidity of Florida. I lived in Vegas and loved being outdoors in the summer, daily temps were over 100*.

I can handle the heat and humidity. Yes the humidity sucks and the bugs suck but I can deal with that better than cold. I hate being cold! !

Besides, it costs more to run my heater than it does my a/c. haha
