Have been re thinking my current swap.

I have tech now that I did not possess when I first started.
Then: I wanted GT40 instead of GT40P. Why? Easier to fit headers, and wouldn't absolutely have to re spring the heads if I put a cam in it. So 97 it was.
Now: The headers I have will work on a P. I don't need to put a cam in. The 97 has that feed return rail that wants lower pressure and that nasty EGR hole...

Then: I'll use a 2WD 4R70W from a 96 because it matches the computer and sensors.
Now: The older 4R70W's were not as tough as the newer ones, and I have access multiple resources on how to get a newer one to work with an older computer. I like my 4WD better.
Sub note on now: The perfectly good 4WD 4R70W that was in it is now full of water in a field.

Then: My 2000 with a 2.5 doesn't have pats. I bought a 97 so I wouldn't have to be concerned with pats.
Now: I understand PATS, it really is no issue.

Then: There's a cute little 2000 in amazon green I can buy. Not much rust at all and the motor is blown already, great to do my swap!
Now: Almost 5 years later. Rust has totally eaten the cab corner on drivers side, the interior is NASTY, the lady that owned it was a multiple pack a day smoker that carried an oxygen tank. Brakes hacked in with miles of copper line going any direction. AND it has a 7.5 rear, one leaf spring. AND it isn't a 4WD.

Then: My side projects are going great, at least a grand a month extra to spend on stuff!
Now: Only one side project left, not doing well. Teenager driving next year, insurance going up. Both kids need dental work.

Then: I work at this HUGE place, plenty of space to store parts and cars!
Now: That big place I work was bought by a bigger place who is real concerned about our housekeeping ethics and wants severe changes. I have almost 8 years worth of gathered parts I now have to either store in my garage, throw away, or take the time to list everything and sell it for pennies on what I paid for it, package it...

Then: I really love my little truck!
Now: I have 2 more I love much better!

I'm almost 90% sure I'm dumping the project. There, I said it.

Are the headers torque monsters? If they are I'll buy them!

Nope, FMS. Not as good as torque monsters but actually more rare.

Keep those suckers around if nothing else just to have them on the shelf!!
I have not seen a set of the FMS manifolds for sale for about 3-4 years now getting pretty rare!

We all move on
Older Rangers are coming back up in price you may not want to give up on it yet, BUT rust in the cab corners is like eeeeeeehhhhhwwwww yuk

Yes rare, I did an internet search and the only reference I could find was a couple of explorer forum posts in 2008 and of course this forum.

I don't plan on selling unless someone wants to give me an ungodly offer. If I keep them for another 10 years (providing I live that long) I could sell them to an explorer museum LOL.

Some dog them because the TM's are better. Anyone who has seen what the stock ones look like (both the pipe and cast versions) will know the FMS are a HUGE upgrade.

I'd settle for a "do at all" right about now.

I'll plan the next swap better.

Jim, NEVER give up on your dreams. Heck, even at 63 years old, I still plan to be tall and good looking some day! :P

Good looking we can usually fake, tall? No way for me!

Glad to see you Mike, I'm not giving up just shifting focus.

Shifting is fine as long as you don't miss a gear! ;)
