It was cold this morning, frozen! Truck had a good battery, starter was cranking but it wouldnt start. Sprayed some starter fluid and itd start but wouldnt stay running. My guess was fuel pump or fuel filter. Towed it to the closest service shop and they came to the same conclusion, fuel pump.

Heres the kicker, $1,093 + $105 for the hook. Lol. Glad I'm not paying!! That seems really high for a fuel pump. I know they have to drop the tank but sheesh. Fortunately I havent had too many problems with my rangers. I guess I'm a bit out of touch with repair prices. Ouch!!

I went to have a flat tire from my Ranger repaired at a local tire store on Monday & saw the labor rate is $117.00 per hour, WOW!!! When I worked in new car dealerships back in the 90's labor rate was $65.00 per hour, has it ever gone up, OMG. No wonder I do my own repairs. I can not imagine how much I have saved by being able to do almost all over work on our 3 trucks, my Mustang, & my wife's motorcycle.

They charged $600 for the fuel pump and 2.5 hours of labor at $150/hr. I think the ford dealership would actually be cheaper than this shop.

holy sh*t balls

What kind of pump did they install?
You can lift the bed and get to that fuel pump in about 20 minutes. Since it is a full size you may have to replace the bed bolts and clips (they break when you remove them 1/2 the time)
new Bosch pump is about $50 bed bolt kit is about $40 so $90 or so for parts, an hour of labor

Yeah at my shop I would have charged you about $200-250 total and use quality parts.
shop rates are over $100 this day and age. this is exactly what started this 25 years ago, I could not afford to pay for others to repair my vehicle then and I refuse to do so now.

Meineke car care center....we have 2 shops we take the trucks too, that was not one of them. Yesterday the owner was doing something and didnt want to be bothered and the office supervisor (step son) was out of the office as well. That left the step sons work wife in charge (step sons best friend) who usually impersonates chicken little when problems arise.

He said to take it to the closest shop and get it fixed. I think he thought the tow bill would be more if we took it to our regular shop. Once we were  on the hook the meineke guy took advantage to pay shop Bill's n wages for the day with one truck. Ours. Lol. This place looks like it might see 3 cars a week if lucky just cause of the location.

When I got the quote to fix it, I called the office super and he gave me the go ahead figuring if we went anywhere else wed need to tow it and it might not get done the same day. When it came time to pick it up and pay he was out of the office again so I had to call the owner, who had not been prepared for the price. Lol. Best part, this shop cant do credit cards over the phone so I had to cover it.
