In some ways it surprises me that this matter is continuing to cause so much concern for those who still visit the fading website. I'm not trying to defend the place in any way (first time I saw it, yeah, it caught my attention but ultimately, that red screen didn't bother me and this was no accident) but with nothing else said, how many people have actually experienced and/or proven there is malice, malicious intent, etc etc etc behind that screen and that site?

It's a phishing warning.
I can't even access frf from the browser my phone, as it redirects me to a different site.
Having said all that, when on my PC, I still do access that site and with everything else on the internet, just be aware of what you do and you should be fine!

The only thing really bad about it is that it is not being worked on. You need your members to feel safe even if they are already relatively safe.

We shut our place down, searched to determine the exact problem, corrected the problem, kept all current members informed by e-mail and opened back up in a matter of a few hours.

AND our problem here was directly related to the problem there from an image linked from there.

Is it actually dangerous? Well if you have filestore72 book marked I bet there is malware all over there. Else the original site is safe to visit.

If you notice there is no "google ads" atop our pages.

The google ads are not always safe. Real sites advertise on google ads BUT they might have become infected because of a server security breach and have drive by style malware being distributed.

Thats why filestore72 didn't redirect every single time you went to frf, just once in a while. It's while that particular ad was being displayed in the ad window. They rotate several hundred ads.

This issue started with the introduction of https some while back.

Inevitably people post links (either website owners or users) onto an https site that are http links.

Until recently this "mixed content" didn't cause the browsers any problems, but as the browsers have tightened up security we have seen more instances of the red screen etc.

Often there is nothing worse than a stray http link - often an image, but as there is potential for virus / malware infection through an unsecured image it is better not to use them.

We take security very seriously - I beat Jim up over getting the sites SSL certificates :)

As a longstop - I have now added some code that changes any http links into https ones - if there is an https alternative then it will load and you won't notice any difference, if there isn't a secure alternative then at the moment you will just not see your link when you post (it will still show in the editor before posting though).

The solution is simple - just upload the image you want into the gallery - we have safeguards there to deal with the content.

^^^ To a very large degree, part of my point. It's not like visiting that site is op0enly and easily setting anyone up for problems at all but rather, it's largely reminding people to use good common sense. Now to get them to actually believe this.........

Common sense for most in the sense of the "masses" is so rare, it should be allowable as a skill on a resume these days.

While I agree with your last comment the most, when you consider the amount of people that not more than 4-5 months ago flourished on that site on a daily basis to the tune of 60-70 posts & new threads in 2 days wasn't uncommon if not slowed times.

I dont think that the owner(s) of that site have realized yet the massive drop in the last month alone. Its apparent its not his only income stream perhaps but I am pretty sure that once he sees a repeat this month in revenue either from post counts or Google ad revenue, he's (they're) gonna come check out the site to find basically its a sinking ship; because rather than participate and stayed on board, he decidedly put it on cruise control, its pin-balling its way through icebergs right now, taking on water in multiple compartments at an exponential rate.

It is sad, I don't think anyone whose been on there any length of time and has perhaps now migrated here doesn't feel some remorse or have heavy thoughts about that site while having a true concern for its well being; Kind of like that Ex-GF you truly loved but after a falling out you realize the only thing she has to offer is her looks, nothing else, and in 10 years that may be questionable along with the loyalty of the relationship.

I am sure if at some point we see the street sweepers on the site, as I am sure none of us are really wanting to let go too soon in hopes it does turn around but.. many of us will likely travel in conversations abroad again on more than one site.

But until that digital STD condition is administered.. my presences will be nothing less than shy.
