The reason is simple - this site is protected by SSL and http://www.fordrangerforum.com is not.

So if you try to link a non SSL image onto this site the browser throws a wobbly.

You have 2  options - set an exception if your browser allows you to and you trust the other site or save the image you want to copy over onto your PC and then upload it into the gallery here.

Which is EXACTLY the reason for this post I did in the beginning:

https://ford-rangers.com/view_post.php?post_id=180

Looks like I'm going to have to disallow outside image linking, the world is changing

LOL you can post because you are a super, the plase is actually closed. I just found and fixed the problem but are wondering how to keep it from happening again without taking features away from members.

OK -

this is what happens if you  put a H T T P link in

https://mydomain.com

same for images but it won't load them as the image can't be found - am working on an error message routine that scans ALL posts for broken links.

Just an observation from the "thats funny   post" Ive tried linking two pics through the upload feature, once from a mobile device (phone) several times, would not take the saved PNG file, kept asking to fill in all the proper places. Never seen anything needing to be filled out per say..

Second time was from the laptop.. again another attempt at the same .PNG file and then another pic file, which upon posting it flashed both pics then removed them... leaving similar blue links :squint:

Ok - thanks for letting me know.

I have checked all three posts - two from
memegenerator.net have http links embedded in the https code when you share them from the site.

The third is a http link and will not get shown.

If you want to use these images, simply right click on the image on the other site, save the image and upload it to your gallery.

Chris I think he's talking about the upload button in the posting window (are you?)

Jim, I know it really isn't any of my business, but I would strongly encourage you to disallow 3rd party linking.  As you said, the Internet is changing.  To keep this site safe for visitors as well as maintain the integrity of How-To posts that require pictures to remain relevant, I don't see any other option.  If a person wants to link to something on another site, they could just paste the URL into their post as plain text and anyone could then just copy/paste it into a new browser tab to access it.  Just a thought...

We have a GREAT solution and will implement it in a couple days.

I will explain in vivid detail soon. If not tonight tomorrow.

The short version is if it isn't https you can't link to it.

Has anyone else noticed that the FRF RSOD has disappeared? Or is it just me? I still stop by there in case there is someone around that I can lure to F-R. Haven't gotten the Deceptive Site screen for a couple of days now.

Yes it is gone. That doesn't mean the site is being maintained though. I will not forgive them for letting it go like that and will zoom forward considering TRS the only other forum I feel I need to catch up with. Give us a year and if we aren't tied for first place with google I'll publicly admit I have failed. And I won't because of people that will be involved and the level of their involvement will preserve the growth of the entity even if I drop dead. I have a determination that only one of you here has seen even a fraction of.

I don't think the RSOD being gone will resurrect FRF. That may help it limp along for a while longer. I am confident the damage has been done and is irreversible.

EDIT: Although I am not the one you are referring to about seeing your determination, I think the majority of your members see the drive and resolve you have to provide a top-notch site for the common good. :)
