I find it funny what people spend to waste time watching Tel-a-vision...

Brainwashing at your own expense, can't get away from it like a crack dealer being your best friend, and people love it for what it is!

https://www.google.com/patents/US6506148

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The invention relates to the stimulation of the human nervous system by an electromagnetic field applied externally to the body. A neurological effect of external electric fields has been mentioned by Wiener (1958), in a discussion of the bunching of brain waves through nonlinear interactions. The electric field was arranged to provide “a direct electrical driving of the brain”. Wiener describes the field as set up by a 10 Hz alternating voltage of 400 V applied in a room between ceiling and ground. Brennan (1992) describes in U.S. Pat. No. 5,169,380 an apparatus for alleviating disruptions in circadian rhythms of a mammal, in which an alternating electric field is applied across the head of the subject by two electrodes placed a short distance from the skin.

Been TV free for 11 years now.. Id rather read a book or be out in shop or the wilderness. NOTHING good about TV especially wasting money on it. Sorry just my opinion.

Bob, SlingTV is easy as pie to use.  We bring it through a Roku stick, along with Netflix, Amazon, Hulu.  We dumped Comcast after the bill went up after the 2 year intro, and they flat out lied to my wife about getting us a deal.

I'll take another look at it today, seems I couldn't get Velocity or Fox Business news.

I believe if you ask several people my age and retirement income what they have interest in, very few have answers. All I have ever known the vast majority of my life was eat,sleep,work..

All the cable providers play the same game. Lots of $$$ for crap programming. The programming isn't the providers fault though, they can only offer what is available. The television and movie industry cranks out cheap crap by the metric tonne and you pay for that via your cable bill.

After I retired no friends stop by or nothing changes in my life, basically I'm bored to death especially in the Winter. My only salvation is the love of my dog.LOL!

Ah, that could be.  I get my internet through CenturyLink, and we don't have a home phone, so I don't know about all that.  Sorry Bob

Internet is $65 and phone is $10 so would only save a few bucks and no Fox news or Fox business or Velocity or American Pickers or local channels. It would be nice just to pay for the 8 channels I like but it will never come to that.

Even if the cable providers offered "ala carte", the individual channels would cost so much that it would be like buying the packages they have now.

I' sure many of us here are pretty wise to the psychological game that has arisen from the so-called benefits of "technology" which seems more inherent of discovery of algorithms of human behavior to use the easy manipulated and impulse driven of people and drain them like batteries for their energies.. hence why I do hold the arguments I do where I believe 'life' should be about adventures and experiences. But we all get convinced or indoctrinated to believe that working for someone else is somehow a benefit of feeding what' really compulsory and that' being a slave to our own debts.. add some laziness, lack of creativity, and a smidgen of don' care - it' not my problem and voila.... The not so American dream manifests itself with almost but not quite instant gratification results.

As for your Tell-a-vision.. not too much diversity comes at the hands of only a handful of opinions and beliefs, especially when it' an dl a trickle down effect. Media and food wise..

The illusions of choices are yours... just when you think you're voting with your dollars one way, they get you on another. But no one wants to hear or talk about that, so until some dramatic injustice occurs it's swept out from view or thought; to controversial or convuluted for conversation so shut up and turn up the TV so I can hear it... ;)

I think we as a society need to remember what life is, and what a job is/was. And start from there.

I kind reel back now when I hear someone say they can' wait until they retire so they can go and do all the things they wanted to do...

Really, at age 65+ [for most people] you wanna go and do all the things you missed out on in life at the times when they would have been most appropriate?  So 64th B-day were going bungee jumping or skydiving?

Anyone seen the movie 'Driven' with Sylvester Stallone?  Decent to good movie if you're even the most basic of a gear head. In the movie, the German driver has an argument with his woman in which during so he snaps at her and tells her that the race is his life.. she' quick to remind him that isn' his life, it' what he does as a job and that was two differet things and she walks away from him.

Another thing that comes to mind is the quote from a Native American who states when he was young, Indians fished, hunted, and fucked squaws all day and lived freely on the land.

Then the white man came and put everyone to work to make money for other people [paraphrasing]

Anyway, those stuck in my head many years ago and it changed some processes in how I think.

I think Joe Rogan says it pretty good in today' world too with this..

Time is and the only commodity we can never get back...

And..,

You should talk to some of the people I know here in upper management at Casino's. For as much as you pay for a decent beer in a club or bar, and the casino's will comp you all day and night - so long as your feeding their machines with money, they'l feed you all the food and booze you want. They do an insane amount of things to keep you inside and gambling that costs extravagant amounts of money.. but they get it back 10 fold... on a moral compass it' totally off course

There is an Amazonian tribe that used to live off the forest - then American missionaries came to convert them to Christianity, built tin shacks for them and introduced them to western food, stayed a while and then left.

Now the tribe just stands around all day and no longer lives off the land but government handouts ....

Sounds like a lot of "tribes" in America... and by that I mean in generalized terms people living off the government and not contributing to anything including society. No color schemes included, it' rampant among many cultures.

Everyone looking for the shortcuts in life which to me,  I find most problematic because now it' no longer the original task at hand that is important but the shortcut itself. Pathetic

Both government and society need a revamping
