I was first stationed in Las Vegas, NV. Then moved to Panama City, Fl and I'm currently in Valdosta, Ga.

I've been to some cool places and met some cool people. I've also been to some not so cool places and met some not so cool people.

I reenlisted this past March (which will put me up to 18 years) on the ramp of an HC-130J during one of our jumps.

Ahhhhh so you were either stationed at or training at Nellis AFB? Or were you at one of the outside lying bases..?

I'm in Vegas myself, non-military of course but have dozens of enlisted or prior enlisted friends or LEO's.

I was at Nellis from Dec 2003 until Dec 2008. I loved it. I went back in 2013 prior to a deployment and it had built up so much. I cant even imagine how it is now.

I owned a Ranger out there too and a sport ATV (YFZ450). I used to driving through the area north of Nellis all the time. It was a blast. I miss it. I'm pursuing a job in Albuquerque now, I miss the bigger city, desert kind of lifestyle. Though cost of living is much more!

Well, I work for a manufacturing company as a Senior Technician. What it means is that I do PM's, repairs, trouble shooting, vendor relations, procedure writing, operator training, work flow scheduling and whatever else is needed for a half dozen multi million dollar vacuum sputter tools and associated operators.

Agreed.. although born in the land of the fruits, nuts, and flakes [Kalifornistan] until 3'ish, moved to Michigan just outside the suburbs of Detroit where after 36 years I moved back to Kalifornistan and my fun-pitch was out there that "I didn't have to shovel sunshine.." and after moving from Kali to Las Vegas, Nevada it's now changed to "Sunshines was to gawdamn expensive.."

But I love how there is so much outdoor activities to do here and I try to get involved in it all.. Except rock climbing. I ain't worth   dead yet. ROFL

Well said! I loved that you could do whatever you wanted to , whenever. The 215 loop wasn't finished when I was there so I would imagine that makes thing easier, but the traffic ws still horrible. I lived in N. Las Vegas. From Craig Rd, I'd head north on Commerce. There wasn't much any further north than my neighborhood. Now, it goes on for miles. Crazy how fast it build up out there!

Yea, I live in the somewhat south west side, I'm 6 mins away from the Mandalay bay shooting gallery [what.., Too soon?] Close to the 215.

But I'm likely going to move to Nye county and just out of Clark County policy. Plus I wanted 25 acres but now I'm thinking 40 or more but no more than 120. Backed up to BLM land, preferably mountain sides or even a little bit of some hills. So I've got a few irons in the fire of life right now but looking for opportunities in land out here.

Nye county is considered almost the wild wild west with near Australian outback population ratios. Lol well not that bad but for what I want to do land use wise the restrictions are more lenient and workable if not unenforceable is some ways. Clark County? Even if I was a 100 miles from anyone, I still have to adhere to Clark County policy, which is better than Las Vegas City in some ways mind you but.. yea people today lol

That'd be nice to have that much land out there. It's pretty nice! You could hunt, shoot, 4x4 all that kinda stuff! Not to mention hand on to it until Vegas expands that far and then sell it for millions!

Another reason why id want 100 acres.. keep people away. Generally I am not anti social per se but I also generally pick the people i like to associate with. lol

Cant knock you there. Sometimes privacy is amazing, especially in a large city where even at 2am the traffic is worse than rush hour here!

Well if I had it my way, and my wallet would survive the denting, I'd want enough property that would just put someone 15' ft inside a 300 win mags penetration range if I built one; Of course I'd double post warning signage up to 50 ft beyond but include it all within my property line :twitch:

I can see it already, 30 years from now I'll be the next Bundy Ranch incident here in Nevada LOL

Haha. I'd love a nice range as well. I just want 1000 yards. I'll never be any good at anything past that. So a nice big berm on the backside of that and then maybe a few shorter distances with steel plates of various sizes.

My wallet already cant handle that! It's hard enough on my .6 acre I own now!

Ive found GOOD acreage, plenty well over 50 even for less than what people pay for an F350 Lariat 4x4 at full sticker and willing to carry the paper rather than go through a bank for it. I'd need to negotiate for full access to the property to maintain and prep for building on at a later date. Just trying to find property backed up to a mountain/knoll as BLM land and still get what I want out of it too

There's a few of us who aren't so new but missed this thread on the first go-round...

I'm a traffic engineer. Traffic signals are my particular favorite, although I've spent my share of time on signs and lines (my current gig), and various other roadway-related engineering tasks.

I also spent a bit of time inspecting railroad bridges- a cool job, but I'm a traffic guy at heart.

Missed this thread...

19 years of active duty with an approved retirement date of Sep 30, 2019.
No idea what I am doing after I retire.  My wife is the real bread winner and affords me the life I live.  She the Plant Controller for Ingersoll Rand at the Kent, Wa facility. We've discussed me being a stay at home dad for a while until I decide.

Retired Air Guard after AD, I was Commo the entire time. Crypto-Digital Switching-Computer Maintenance tech and latter forced to cross-train into Ground Radio-Satcom Maintenance tech. On the civilian side I got an IT degree and worked as a project manager till the IT bust caught up with me in 2002. I couldn't find IT work and got a job in satellite communications as a government contractor. I got medically disqualified a few years back and was forced into an early retirement.

Congrats on retirement!  I got 5 years left!   Like you, I have no idea what to do after...my fiance' is a manager for AAFES, so she wont be supporting me. haha. I've thought about truck driving. Though I have a buddy who works for Northrop Grumman in Fl, he might could hook me up with a decent paying job.

I've always said when I retire I either want to be the HMFIC (for those non mil guys...head mother F'er in charge) of something or the lowest guy on the totem pole with zero responsibility. Like the contractors mowing the grass on base. Probably getting paid decently, their biggest worry is trying not to hit a rock or a bush!

I've been stressed enough over my last 15 years in. I'm ready to be stress free. Come on 2023!
