Hello to all who read my latest rant !

I do not have a problem welcoming new members and making a comment or two about them, their trucks, or even where they live, but when most members get welcomed it is by admin, welcoming them before there is any info from the New Member on the welcome post.

I see a welcome post by admin-whom ever for member-whom ever.  An admin saw fit to welcome a new member, nice, but who is the new member, where is his information about himself, how do I respond, "Hello, Welcome"... just sounds funny to me.

We should have each new member make a post about themselves and use that post to start a welcome thread.
Then we can at least say hey you drive the same truck I do , or you live in the same area, or something along that lines.
Right now all I can do is like above, "Hello and Welcome".

Can we set it up so every new member fills out an info post, make it automatic, at least their name, their Handle, their truck, maybe mods, or even make it part of the "My Account" information.
If the new member does not fill it out then there is no welcome, no further ruffles and flourishes, he is content, we are (I am) content.
OR, deep end here..., make it mandatory to fill out the information.

Sorry if this steps on toes, but I go to the threads and it appears funny to see a couple or more posting, welcoming someone by Handle, that no ones knows anything about.

OK, I will get down off the box again !
Thanks for reading as usual !

New members get a welcome private message from admin and there is an invocation for others to welcome them at the bottom of the main page -

"We have 190 members, 1,073 topics, 15,581 posts.  Please welcome our newest member drizzy. "

So not really unexpected that members should post a welcome, even before the new member has posted - some people like to nose around before leaping in with a post and nearly half the members never post at all! - others turn into right chatterboxes :D

Having said that, it would be nice if people did an introductory post but I am not convinced it should be mandatory .

I actually agree with Don,his ethics is why he moderates that forum section. It doesn't hurt a thing, and if they are lurking it will make them feel good about posting.

Some robots might get a welcome along the way, the gains outweigh the losses IMO.
