Torsen does make a 28 spline version though that will drop right in. You would be amazed what you can do with a 28 spline. In most situations except extreme horsepower (well over 400 anyway) or rock crawling a 28 spline will do. Daily driver, snow and an occasional trail? you are not going to break your 28 spline. That is not a challenge LOL.
I don't know, that kind of seems like a challenge...
Thing is , I have the 31 spline set up so it seems like I am putting the 3.73 s in the big axle.

Did you read under his banner?

did

Jeff, welcome to F-R. I can not help you with your question, but I am sure someone here could answer it for you. BTW, nice looking Ranger, I love the blue. 67 hardtop as in Mustang?. Interested in old Mustang's too. Here is a pic of my 69.

Pretty big fan of the blue myself. Yes, 67Hardtop is in reference to my Mustang. It's getting  a 5.0 , T5  trac loc 9". looks like you are making good progress on the '69. you on VMF ?

Yes, I am on VMF. My 69 has a lightly modified 1987 5.0, w/T-5, & 9" w/3.50 gears & trac loc.

I think my 5.0 is an '88 but also a 3.50 gear.

I am happily a Ford Ranger owner again. I was very happy when Ford reintroduced the Ranger. But I still favored the past rangers for their size. In November I was at a Ford dealer for service on one of our fords and the sales manager mentioned they had received a 2007 Ford Ranger Sport on trade. I took one look and I was hooked. I expressed how much I like the Navigation and back up camera on my Focus. The Manger sent me to a Auto stereo dealer nearby. The manager  said they would help with the cost to install a new radio, navigation , blue tooth and back up camera. No more excuses. It only had 81000 miles and was in excellent condition. So I am back in the saddle with the truck of my dreams.

Hey, I'm hoping some can help me out. I have a 2005 Ranger XLT 4x4, love my truck, put lots and lots of hard miles on her. I was forced to replace the transmission in her and the one I used came from an Explorer. Same engine size, 4.0 liter, same tranny, 5R55S. It came with the Transfer Case but I had to use mine because of the wiring plugs. Mine only had 7 pins and it was wanting 14 pins, so I used mine. The main issue is I have a plug with no mate now in my harness because the ISS sensor which is suppose to be above the DTR sensor isn't there. In fact I can't find it anywhere. The tranny doesn't shift right, the O/D light flashes and my truck runs like  . I'm positive it's cuz that plug isn't plugged in but I have nowhere to plug it into.

Hello Jake and welcome to our forum! :-)  I'm not well-versed on the differences of transmission between Ranger and Explorer but I know a guy who does.  I will PM him and ask if he can help.  His name is Jamie and he goes by 410 Customs.  The guy is a walking Ranger/Explorer/Sport Trac encyclopedia!

Update:  I sent Jamie a PM and a link to this thread.  Good luck, Jake!

What is going on dudes!!

@spt304 I want to see this 2007 Ranger with the new stereo and back up camera! Sounds nice

@Jake3369 hey Jake!
Okay what year explorer did your transmission come from?? A 2005 explorer uses a 5r55s........
Your 05 Ranger uses a 5r55e
Very different transmissions and they are NOT interchangeable

The explorer uses a type of AWD part time 4x4 transfer case, your ranger does not have Awd so that is why the transfer case differences. I hate to tell you this but whomever sold you this explorer trans to go in your ranger was WRONG, or if you thought your ranger uses the 5r55s I am sorry it does not

So where do we go from here? Well first off how many miles on your Ranger? Why did you have to replace your transmission? Where are you located?

Thanks. I am easy to remember. Just call me Gene. I have a 1999 Ranger XLT 4.0. With 79k miles. I am interested in doing some FORSCAN research and updates on the Ranger.

Gene, welcome to our forum!  Although I use ForScan, I am nowhere close to guru status.  If you have questions about using ForScan, I suggest shooting a PM to Anthony (sheltonfilms).  I will be the first to demand pics of your super-low-mileage 1999! :-)

Thank you for membership.

I am from backwoods pennsylvania. i have been an autobody repairman, fabricator and restorer for 50+ years.

The rangers that i have owned were pre 2000 and ohv engines. i am now involved with a 1993 4.0 ohv.

Looking forward to seeking and possibly giving information.

1993 with a 4.0 ohv. It starts easy, runs ok for a minute ,then shudders and blows black smoke. Smell of fuel at startup then accelerates quickly , idles smooth a bit then misses and loads up. Replaced ecm, injectors, all sensors...rather frustrated about now.

Anyone have a similar experience.?

MAF?  IAC?  Sounds like a fuel/air issue, but I'm not a push rod 4.0 guy, so just tossing that out there.

Where's 410 Customs when you need him?

New member here. Joined to try to gather info for a '89 Mustang 5.0 into '97 Ranger 2.5  swap. This is my grandson's truck and opportunity to spend quality time and work with him. All info to minimize problems are greatly appreciated. Ranger is 2wd, 5-spd.
