Hi.
Just found this site thanks to Rock Auto.
I have a 98 Ranger XLT that I just bought two weeks ago.
Plans are to keep it relatively stock and use it as my daily driver.
(I have a 79 Pinto fully caged that will have a 351C and an aftermarket T5 for my fun car.)

Seen a couple of things here I need to find more info on, one is the 40 40 seat mod. I really am missing a center console. The cup holder this has that fits around the shifter isn't working for me. Changing seats is an option also. Now that I have something to haul things with that is.
Has a horrible power steering whine, but seems that is fairly common.
Paint is decent, hood has faded quite a bit, but otherwise it's good. Also has an ARE shell on the bed. Even color matched.
Has some little things that need fixed, but it is 22 years old. Dash lights, left side of radio, heater core plugged (I hope that's all it is). Could use new front shocks, PO did rears but not the fronts.
Drives really good for as old as it is. And I love having a manual again.

I know I need pictures, but haven't gotten any yet.

Thanks,
Russ

To be clear, the shorty console cup holder is interfering with the shifter? Or are you looking for a console with cupholders that accommodates a manual shifter?

Hi Russ, welcome to F-R!

Russ, welcome to F-R. A Pinto with a 351-C, NICE. You could get a shorty console & bucket seats out of an Explorer 2 door Sport & if you have an Extd Cab they will bolt right in, I did that mod on my last 2000 Ranger Extd Cab. Here is a pic of the short console that is in my current 2000 Ranger Extd Cab.

Welcome !

I have a 2003 Std Cab Short Bed, 5 sp, with Bucket Seats, and FX4 BLACK Shorty Center Console and have no problem with the center console vs Shifter.

I have found the Center Console to be a little too high for me and my arm length but other than that it a go for sure.

Thinking on this a little, there are two type of Shots Consoles, one has the Cup Holders Sideways and the other, the one I have, has the Cup Holders in-line.

Maybe the Console with the Sideways Cup Holders is longer.

AFAIK the only difference is the cup holder panel that clips into the console top.

Welcome to the forum!
I know some of the Explorer consoles and seats will bolt right into the Ranger. Quite a few guys here have done it, I am sure they can help you out.
Cannot wait to see pics!

You may be right, since I do not have the other console...I fell there is no way that the side by side cup holder will fit in my in-line cup holder console.

I would think the spacing in the Explorer is wider than the Ranger, the console I have is from a Ranger 2002 FX4... BLACK, the way it fits my truck there is no extra room in width.

I think I need to see one of other models to make sure.

If you look at the pic I posted above of my gray console which the truck was built with, there is a coin holder in front of the 2 cup holders which are in front of each other with a little storage cubbie next to the cup holders, then look at the 2 pics 97rangerstepside posted of the consoles in his 2 Rangers & the cup holders are next to each other with the little storage cubbie & the coin holders in front of the cup holders.

I still want to see it.

Would think it was wider.

Either way, all set !

The 97 above has the cup holders around the shifter I currently have. I want to do the Explorer seats/console at some point. And yes, it is an extended cab.
There is so much I need to learn.
Thanks,
Russ

So you have a manual and want to know if you can do this?

Yes you can!!

Not sure if there was 99-01 manual explorer but I think there might have been. Anyway, if not you could probably just remove the message center and accomplish something similar with a dremel. Same style console used in both pictures

If you are twin stick you may need to make additional modifications

With the twin stick and full length console, you have to heat the side of the console and reshape it to clear the transfer case stick.  V8 Level II (rwensing) had to do that to his.  Personally, I think the shorty console looks best with the manual floor shift.
