For a diesel? By different model you mean something brand wise outside of a Ford replacement?

If you can't source a direct replacement, I think the mentioned option of rebuilding yours is a good one.

I used a Summit Racing Version of the mini high torque starter on my 5.0L-W Engine.
Very compact, very strong response when spinning the 5.0L-W.
Now what vehicle/engine are we talking ?
