it's the length of the run more than the size needed. It starts as 208 and is stepped up to 480 beside the service breakers. Then it goes like 100 feet. Largest I have ever worked with is 4/0 he calls this 500 no idea what that is but it should be able to carry 600A of 480 100 feet.

I'm bringing a crazy persons dream to fruition by turning 208 into 480 then in to a 200HP 3400 rpm electric motor turning a hydraulic pump running a hydrostatic drive in to a diesel injection pump test stand.

If it turns out like I have planned we will be featured in "Puller" magazine. I have been given an unlimited budget for this and they want it to look like a nasa project.

Unlimited was a bad choice of words, started to sound like HostGator.
Unrestricted would be more accurate, they trust me and know I will spend as little as I can to get the result they want.

Sounds very interesting!  Sounds like one of those projects my son would be working on.  He does a little bit of everything for his company.  This Coke sign in Times square was one of his projects.  This was a HUGE job...  https://vimeo.com/229199452

Well it isn't ranger related or is it? Me doing this for them pays me and I buy rangers.

I'll start posting about it and take some pictures. The soft starter is interesting, it is in a panel taller than I am which doesn't take much.

If I were you I'd use a 200hp V8 ( ex Ranger?? :D) to drive the pump and save all the aggro and cost of running that electricity ....

Had it on a cat 3208 diesel.

So many things could go wrong. Now there is one rotating part instead of several hundred rotating, pivoting, smelly, loud, smoking....

Which BTW does anyone need a perfectly good cat 3208 motor? Won't fit in a ranger and 410 that is not a challenge LOL.
