Hello to all,

I have wanted larger Mirrors for a long time now but recently I have been getting the itch again for them.

I have a set of the '06 Style Mirror, OEM Electric, and Heated, I just need to install but I thought I would ask one more time before I put the '06's in place.

Does anyone know of a Sideview Exterior Mirror for the Ranger that is larger than the '06 Mirrors ?

Thanks

Well, good thing Aluminum foil was on sale..  Ford Ranger Edge and others with dodge tow mirrors, Apparently it's a thing and a direct bolt on at that.

And ummm,.. No Sir, we do not carry them...

Wow, thanks !

Is there a particular year, model, or maybe a part numbers floating around.

I know... "Look it up" !

Mirrors change as the models change.

Thanks again !

EM,
Thanks for the input, 2021 !
I looked at the newer Mirror and new ones start at $379.
the ones with Directions/Parking Lights and have the Con-vexed lower mirror are up to $579... maybe little too much.
Will have to look at Junk Yard Mirrows.

Why is it that no one ever made larger... TOW Mirror for the Ranger ?

The Dodge Mirrors  and the F150 Mirrors look out of place, I'm sure they would give a lot of viewing area but its just not it.

I'm on the hunt again, has anyone ever modified the mounting plate on a larger mirror to fit the Ranger ?

Shy of having this young man come out and install them for you, I think you got it from here after watching this.. lol

Now, our thoughts would be if you DON'T have a reason to use these mirrors and justify some often going to be asked ridiculous comments and sneers.   DON'T !!

I'd personally stick with the '06 Mirrors as the size is perfectly double the older units and still a Ford part # for the purists out there.

Remember, these '84-'11 Rangers were considered "Mini"-trucks, unlike the newer Ranger (5g), Tacoma '05+, Frontier '98+, now Dodge Dakota Mid-size truck sized trucks they are today, it might look a little odd but what is functionality without looking a little out of place.  They only look Micky Mouse like when they're tilted up and out, otherwise many people might not really notice.

12o NI,

Thanks for the video.
That answers the question of how well they fit and what is needed to make them fit.

I looked and was unable to locate much info on this subject.

To tel you the truth yes the most full sized mirrors are too big for the Ranger.

I have a set of the powered '06 Mirrors and will use them until I find a better replacement... probably won't but I will keep my eye open to something new.

The old style Ranger will probably never see new aftermarket items like mirrors.

Thanks again

Well keep in mind, the 93+ Ford Ranger body style is 28 yrs old.  And despite how much sentimental value we like to put into our favorite vehicles.. Most manufactures are no longer making parts from them.  A lot of parts we were able to get are harder to get, and or altogether gone, some of which last year even that were considered an "off-the-shelf-item".. are GONE.

I've publicly made mention of this before, the Ranger community as a whole did not want to take the initiative to support its own aftermarket supporting companies.. that and between the age of the vehicles which all vehicles to some extent fall prey to, even finding the oh so popular Honda Civic HB parts are beyond just difficult to get from Japan or even Stateside vendors anymore. It's a 30 yr old vehicle, one that every family seems to have had one at one time in their driveway.

The time for finding mirrors that match your wants and needs was sadly 10 years ago when the older Rangers were still a hot item to be had. Which Rock band said it was better to was better to "Rock-on than, fade out?

Better to burn out than to fade away.

I was like 10 minutes shy of meeting him back in the day, worked for a place that was quoting stamping dies for Lionel and Neil had just bought a portion of Lionel. He was there the same morning we went to discuss the quote. Had a huge office.

Yes and I intent to be buried in it... so I AM trying to take it with me... in a way !

The wife keeps trying to get me to buy new, I always say WHY !   If the truck is running well enough, isn't costing me anything, I call "A WINNER" !

Some of the more recent mods are really old mod not done yet.   I have one cabinet in the barn that has nothing but Ranger Mod Parts and the Wife comes in and looks in it all the time, not sure why but it always boils down to when are you going to finish these Truck things.

The '06 Mirrors, I have had a few years, I think 6, and just finding the time to overcome the OCD/ADD and just do it.
Of course the Honey-Do List suffers and I think THAT is why she comes in and checks out my progress... LoL !

Looks like I will finish the '06 Mirrors, with some Puddle Lights and small Directional LEDs just for the fun of it, some wiring to do.
First though, the Grille Lights, DRLs, and Horns need to get done !

Ltr all !

Why is it that every time I see "DRL" I think "David Lee Roth"? Dyslexia often accompanies ADHD.

I was looking a the VLED Puddle Lights, nice but the size of them is in question.

I do have some nice small LED Projector Beam Lights, I will check out the visual light output, then decide which ones to use.

Both of my choices right now are drill a hole and put the light in, problems are the space inside of a Powered Mirror, and the placement of the light to avoid the mirror glass and the through bottom mounted directional lights.   I have been thinking a surface mounting system but haven't found one that fits the way I think it should.

Will post when that is decided.

Your 06 mirrors job, sans the puddle lights is about a 20-25 min job per door, still running a pair of wires up and tied off behind them for the lights at some point.  You said you've had those mirrors for how long? 6 years?

Think you have way too many options at your disposal contrary to belief Sir. lol

Would definitely have to make you a PBP installer (Performance-Based-Paid), my shop mgr would flip his wig trying to pay you based on an hourly wage that would make sense for either of you. Ahaha

OPTIONS yes... but base don me... I can lose interest in a minute and then recover the interest six months down the road.
If you read my posting, you will see the over laying of steps within each project; it is what it is !

Also, I started another project, a 1982 Jeep CJ8, two major projects, that project suffers all the time, I start work on her, lose interest, start again, repeat.
She is together but the engine just removed because of field mice but it should be together again, some day.

I'm back on track on the Mirrors.
Going to use the "06 Mirror, already modified to fit the '03, Directional Glass ready to go, just waiting for the Puddle lights to get here.
Not a bid deal, cut a 1.5" hole, snap the lights in place.  I'm thinking keep the holes tight, out them up as needed until the Puddle Lights just slip in !
Run wires.
Install both sides and get wires straightened out, need to have the powered windows and wiring for them in place before switching over to Upgraded Door Panels with the controls.

While things are apart I need to replace the Door Shield/Window wipes.  I need to check out the replacement method.

Thanks to any and all that put in their comments

I saw pictures of a truck that had the V-Led LED Puddle Lights installed in a set of '06 Mirrors.
Although there was light and a good amount of it, I was thinking maybe on the latch end of the door bottoms would be a good place and not only provide basic light but the light would be outward to the street edge and the sidewalk; at least a larger area.

I have some 16mm LED Bolt Lights and they might work with the Interior lights to turn on, something more to check out and try out.

The 16mm Bolt Lights didn't work out as well as I wanted, I like a lot of light.
The V-LEDs should work ok just waiting for them.

Still need the wiring done on the mirror directionals and heaters, not a big job but time.

I have been wanting interior lights under the dash, never put them in, might be a good time for them too or at least run the wiring while the carpet is up and out of the way.

I also need to get two Scopes sighted in, have had them for six months or more.   The hard sights are working ok, in fact I like the hard sights for most shots, but the 70 + yard shots are starting to slip a little.

Just a last review to close this one out !

Used the '06 Powered Mirrors.

Installed, the mirrors were already modified for the '03 mounting.

Wiring still hanging inside of the truck be the kick panels.

I'm not using Puddle Lights at this time in my Mod builds.

Also, I am driving around with one seat, I took both out to do the wiring for the directionals and had to put one back in to drive the truck, just haven't got back to the wiring yet
Hopefully will soon.

A puddle light is supposed to be an ambient light source, designed to "reflect" off any "puddled" body of water that may be where you parked and working in an almost in-direct lighting manner.  The use of a diffused lens glued to the inside might even help.  you'd have to mock it up and play with it in the dark some to get what you really want out of it.  May seem tedious in effort but with some creativity, good materials, and patience may give a result that replicating may be worthwhile.

If you're looking for something a bit more.. Flood like effect used like direct lighting.  I would consider finding a inexpensive quality rock light, have fun taking it apart and mounting it inside through a pre-determined hole in the bottom of the mirror..  The higher up, the size of the hole(s) can change intensity and size of pattern plus would allow to shine enough shadow lighting to reach under the door properly as its opened.

Under the door panel itself just doesn't disperse the light enough or properly, which is why just about every manufacture went for under the side view mirror application.

I had taken one of these, no longer available unfortunately from my source.

And I took an old camera apart, put one inside to make a desk lamp based off this Idea.

You'll notice that they actually used an indoor track lighting light, like one used for highlighting pictures hung on the wall and replaced the lens with it.  For a bit they used similar bulbs in landscaping and even automotive fog lights but they get really hot and don't last long in an automotive application.

My lamp setup was quite a bit more conservative and low wattage/visibility for effect than say a good room lighting and I wanted to maintain the lens and look of the camera as a whole.

It came out pretty nice for the person it was meant for, it was appreciated.

As far as Puddle Lights go, I didn't understand the purpose of them.
I thought it would be light so you didn't step in a puddle getting in the vehicle but not approaching it !
I am learning along the way but decided I didn't need Puddle Lights.
I have to finish the wiring on the Mirror Directionals before doing ANYTHING else.

12o, Thanks for all of your input, helps a lot !

That Light is great I made a pipe one...  two Christmas's ago.

Puddle lights were a marketing feature designed for entering or exiting a vehicle, it was something of a luxury minded thought seen on highline cars and of course in an effort to add value through a feature, Ford said hell yea we need those on our cars! As you indicated, something you don't  need or want now and could likely live without.

I didnt really think about it until now but.

2003-2016 Ford Explorers came with Puddle lamp options, and some of those year Mirrors may fir with modification but I think the aftermarket options might do you better and be less waste of money.

These are what the OE lights looked like.
