Hello all, I've been a lurker, and now need some assistance, so I'm hoping one of you Ford Ranger gurus can help!! I have a question about a replacement seatbelt for my 1998 Ford Ranger, XL, 4x4, extra cab, 4.0 automatic, with the pebble/grey/graphite colored interior (not exactly sure of the color naming, but the interior trim code is E2).  The driver seatbelt is starting to fray along one edge.  I'm searching for a replacement, ideally an OEM. I have found a Ford OEM belt, part number (F87Z-10611B09-AAD) and another on eBay, which is part number (XL5Z-10611B09-AAC). Im curious as to which is the correct part for my truck and matching color. Also, I know there are a couple of aftermarket rebuild companies (Safety Restore seems to be the dominant provider) and if any of you have had any input or have used one.  Thank you all in advance.  Don

Meant for the F-series for your year, I would highly doubt that the colors differ much by even name because of how Ford does part numbers. Generally only generational paint codes change catchy names.

Interior Trim Type

K — Knitted vinyl bench seat, F-Series
C — Cloth bench seat, F-Series
F — Cloth captains chairs, Excursion
F — Flight bench seat, Mexico sold F-Series XLT only
G — High back cloth individual seats, F-Series
H — High back knitted vinyl individual seats, F-Series
J — High back vinyl individual seats, F-Series
3 — Cloth 40/20/40 seats, F-Series/Excursion
D — Cloth 40/20/40 seats with integrated restraints, F-Series
8 — Leather 40/20/40 seats, F-Series
9 — Leather 40/20/40 seats with integrated restraints, F-Series
2 — Cloth captains chairs, F-Series
6 — Cloth captains chairs with integrated restraints, F-Series
4 — Leather captains chairs, F-Series/Excursion
7 — Leather captains chairs with integrated restraints, F-Series
5 — Leather quad captains chairs, F-Series
L — Leather captains chairs, Excursion Limited
B —Leather captains chairs with vinyl rear bench, F-Series
M—Cloth 40/20/40 seats with rear bench mono. F-Series
P—Leather captains chairs with vinyl rear bench, F-Series

Interior Trim Color

H — Medium Parchment, F-Series
E — Medium Flint, F-Series/Excursion
B—Ebony, F-Series
D—Dark Flint, F-Series

Consequently, for useless information.  If you're looking at a Ford Part number, it starts with an E; i.g. E5TF-9C915-AA that constitutes as a 85+ part number.  An identifier of F; F8TF-3C915-AA that constitutes as a 98+ part number.

Thank you for the reply. I had seen that chart elsewhere too. I'm less concerned about the color, as I am about the part number/s listed above being correct. Knowing the E vs. F designator is helpful. Still hoping to get confirmation about years and models I can use, as well as the part number.

And although a bit of a stretch for you, Manufactures do have some long term commitments on certain safety components and emissions, especially enforced in states HIGH on inspections or revenue generation by policy enforcement.

Relevant to Ranger Owners.. Standard Warranty terms, this is before any Extended service contracts.*

Ford Warranty                    Terms

Bumper-to-Bumper 3 years/36,000 miles
Powertrain 5 years/60,000 miles
Safety Restraint System 5 years/60,000 miles
Corrosion (Perforation Only) 5 years/Unlimited miles
Diesel Engine 5 years/100,000 miles
Emissions Up to 8 years/80,000 miles

* Most extended service contracts are by 3rd party insurance/policy companies owned by the very dealerships they're being sold by.  Its nearly 85% profit minus what the Finance manager/Desk managers get as kickbacks or commissions from.  The only Extended service contract [usually] is a drive train one.  So for those of you not able to work on your own engines/trans or can afford the time down to do that, something that MAY prevent you from owning a paper weight might be a extended service contract.

I would suggest, especially within the last decade in ALL honesty, there are far better ways to buy a vehicle without a bank ever telling you know, or that you can't afford a specific package [to a degree] and pay yourself a compounding interest back. OR Lease a vehicle.  Honestly it is NO BENEFIT of really buying a vehicle anymore unless you're buying it for a specific purpose with more than a basic long-term goal in mind.

I know a lot of people are apprehensive taking or even offering advice on the processes of purchasing a vehicle or talking family-based monetary policy.  But if you're really looking to save money, or do something with all the advantages being in your favor long term.  I have some suggestions.
