Sorry, think it is just the basic am/fm/cassette.
I was wondering if there were any common issues that cause this before breaking out the troubleshooting stuff.
I'm an electronic tech, so I can do the troubleshooting if I have to, but I love it when there is a simple solution.
I'll be pulling the radio in a week or two when I change dash bulbs since it seems that is a requirement. Thanks, Ford.
Thanks,
Russ

I had the driver door speaker out for over a year and lost the passenger rear a few weeks back. I replaced all 4 speakers with Kicker's and added baffles. I still have the stock head unit and it has never sounded so good.

I am not a electrical tech so I couldnt say whether or not you've lost the left channel.

You can access the factory head unit by inserting a coat hanger into both square holes to release the locking mechanism. There are 2 on each side. This will allow you to inspect the pigtail and try another factory head unit If you have one available.

The interior panels over the door and rear door( I'm assuming you have the powered 4dr ) are easy to remove. Once you've removed the visible screws  and disconected the power window and lock rockers, lift up and the door paner lifts off, no clips to pull. Now you can check speaker connections.

Most likely the speakers themselves.  As Tony mentioned above, he had two of them go out.  My son's F150 has the passenger door speaker out and he changed the head unit to the old one from his Ranger.  So unless it is in the wiring, the speaker is most likely the culprit.

Thanks.
Looks like I have to take the door panel off anyway to fix the outside door handle, so might as well kill two things at once.
There is what looks like a speaker wire that is hanging down by the ebrake handle. Thinking maybe that has something to do with it.

Hi Russ, the speaker is the least of your worries if your door handle is acting up, it is riveted in and in order to replace it you will need drill skills.

Welcome to F-R!

Finishing nails of 2.75" to 3" work better.. ;-)

And once you get the door panel  taking another known good speaker and just tapping the wires and if the speaker plays, well easy enough confirmation.

I would say that most members here, like myself, only have ONE set of them.  Not even going to ask why you have 4 sets...

@Undrstm8ed: Hey buddy!  Haven't seen you for quite a while! :-)

A set comes with every 2din mounting kit I get. I bought the first set from e-bay, 3 kits later I have 4 sets.

Ah okay, that makes sense.  I've never purchased a 2-DIN mounting kit.  Actually bought the set I have so I could fix the CD player in my old 2003 Taurus.

I just remove the 2 screws that hold the radio trim panel on that are down by the heater/A/C controls & pop the whole panel & radio assembly off.

Most of the time, that is what I do also.  One exception was when I bought my new Pioneer OEM head unit.  Easy to take out, disconnect, reconnect and push it back in the hole! :-)

Unless you guys know a trick to replace the instrument cluster bulbs, I have to take the cover off anyway, so at least for this time that is how I am going to do it.
Want to get a better radio, one with HD, but not in the budget right now.
Thanks,
Russ

Yeah, the radio bezel, cluster bezel, kick plates (plastic and the metal one under it) and of course, the cluster itself all have to come off to change the bulbs.  Change them ALL when you do it!

Yep. I've watched a you tube video on it.
Will definitely be doing all the bulbs.
Thanks,
Russ

Well, either I am an idiot or it just started working.
Adjusted the balance and it came on. I swear I tried that the very first thing.
I'm probably just an idiot.
Thanks, all,
Russ

@Russ: could have been a dozen things.  I have had electronic things get stupid on me for no reason.  Remove and re-apply power and it works again.  Matter of fact, happened this morning when I got to work.  Had to use my key to open the lobby door because the clock that controls the door switch had a blank screen, therefore no "scan your finger to open the door".  Opened the clock up and the controller board had power (LED was lit), but clock was unresponsive.  I unplugged the connectors, counted to 10 in my head and plugged them back in.  All is good now! :-)
