It sounds like the window regulator is worn or broken. Could be something else but that's a very good possibility. Pull the door panel and inspect it while operating the crank. Should be obvious if it's bad. While you're in there, inspect the vertical tracks for wear, damage or loose retainer bolts.
Replacing the factory regulator requires drilling out the rivets that retain it to the door frame, then reassembling the replacement regulator using new HD rivets or bolts/lock nuts to retain it.
Note that the Ranger's power window and manual window regulators are NOT the same. Rights and lefts are also different. Factory Ford/Motorcraft regulators are getting scarce but the aftermarket is taking up the slack. I have no experience with the A/M parts but I have my reservations ....
