Installing a remote start on my 01' Ranger.  I wanted to ask before doing anything but does anyone know the 4 wires that connect to the transponder/pats for what they are... IE:  TX/RX,igntion, ground..etc.

I only have to hook up 4 wires to the transponder but wanted to make sure they are correct.  I can't find what color wires do what.

Thanks,
-Nigel

Thank you!  I found the PATS module.  It's funny that the 4 wires going into the harness are different colors that the 4 wires coming out of the PATS module.  I am pretty sure I figured it out by looking at that connector.  I had to turn the connector and then look at it from the front I think for it to make sense.  I did see a large black wire which has to be the ground, then a larger red wire which has to be ignition.  Then deducted the other two wires for the TX/RX... but, I will be testing today hoping nothing blows up...lol.  I think everything should be find to be honest.
Appreciate the help!

-Nigel

Glad you asked.  Install was not bad.  I used this thread which helped greatly.  And also researched and asked questions on 12vforum.
http://www.fordrangerforum.com/how-to-submissions/139955-remote-start.html

My install was slightly different because I already installed an Avital 2101 keyless entry so I bought the avital stand alone remote start which I tied into my keyless entry system.  Install wasn't hard.  Don't let the below pictures turn you away.  I figured while I was there take everything apart and clean up all my wiring which I had from previous stuff.  So it looks WAY worse than it is.  It's rather straight forward and wasn't too bad to do.  I have no negative of the system at all.

I got the Avital 40003L:

If you have ever done a radio install you can install a remote start. At $50 this was a no brainer to me.  If I was smart I would have done this while I installed my keyless entry but at the time I only had one functional/programmed key, it wasn't until I used FORScan to program new keys that I figured why not add a remote starter.  If I would have found out about FORScan sooner and had the reader/programmer I would have done this mod years ago.

Video of it remote starting:

Hope that helps!
